Thank you. I'm still trying to avoid most news.

I love Russia's strategy here. "Ok, you're absolutely kicking our ass, but...and hear us out...if you stop kicking our asses and let us keep all this territory we've stolen from you, then we'll stop getting our asses kicked. Deal?"

Apparently Russia is famous for using "hey let's cease fire and tlk peace" when they need to consolidate forces for the next attack that they're absolutely planning.

Ukrainian Army is in Kherson center. Right bank of the Dniper liberated. Some sort of deal might have been struck because the city wasn’t completely destroyed in the turn over - and the UA seem to have held back on rocketing the shit out of the RU troops at the few crossing points they had left.

Super optimistically, this is the last major battle that should have to be fought. It’s the only regional capital that Russia took, and ought to be a signal that the war is completely unwinnable from a RU standpoint for the goals they set at the beginning. Pessimistically, the reality is probably different.

Company pretending to be American is actually Russian, and has code in thousands of mobile apps
At the same time, the company created a raft of social media profiles for U.S.-based executives that are also fictional, Reuters reports. Konev claims that the fake profiles were created by a marketing agency in 2018 to “use social media to sell Pushwoosh, not to mask the company’s Russian origins.”

From a cybersecurity perspective, the obvious concern here is that this company isn’t what it seems and that data collected by it could have been misused or shared with the Russian government. To be clear, though, Reuters reports that there isn’t any evidence that Pushwoosh did either of those things. That said, it isn’t without precedent for Russian law enforcement to force Russian companies to furnish user data to the government.

Interesting. Feels like Russia should be moving to de-escalate tension, not heighten it by saying, "Wasn't me." Unless they want NATO intervention...

Follow me here: If NATO declares a no fly zone above Ukraine, Russia could then justify losing and pulling out. They save face and a new cold war starts, which helps Putin take more control at home through his military.

Poland's president and the head of NATO have today both said that it's likely that the missile strike that killed two people in a Polish border village Tuesday was accidentally caused by Ukrainian air defenses, with no sign that it was a intentional attack on Poland.

Yet this is the first time a NATO country has been directly hit since the conflict began in February. Alliance chief Jens Stoltenberg said that: "Russia bears ultimate responsibility, as it continues its illegal war against Ukraine."

Meanwhile, residents across Ukraine face emergency power cuts following Russia's barrage of strikes targeting energy infrastructure on Tuesday.

Here are the latest developments:

"Not Ukraine's fault": The origins of the missile that struck eastern Poland with deadly consequences are still under detailed investigation, though Stoltenberg said early analysis suggests it was "likely" fired by Ukraine's defenses.

Putin talking nukes again.

This is clearly just posturing.

Worst trade in history. She's so intelligent that she went to a country we are fighting a proxy war with and took illegal drugs with her. Also, being overly grateful to the team that's pulling you out of serving 9 years in a fucking Russian gulag isn't a true indicator of her character. Who was she BEFORE the worst adversity she ever faced? And, to be fair to her, let's see who she is going forward.

I saw a post saying that the Russel Wilson trade was still the worst in history, even with that one.

I mean, they might be right. :D

I am genuinely happy for BG and her family that she's home, but fuck that was a big price to pay for someone who put themselves in that situation. Every person that now dies because the Merchant of Death is free has to be counted against her. Huge cross to bear for her.

She doesn't strike me as the kind of person who would care, much less carry guilt.

Think the trade is a good thing and Brittney better be happy for that flag for the rest of her days.

It says a lot that this is the best and only trade the US and Russia can put together after negotiating for what seems like months now. I know the US tried for a while to get more.

If it had been a male basketball player, we'd have had to trade two prisoners. That's all I know.

Russia bringing the Merchant home and celebrating him being a notorious gun runner and black market corruption specialist.

Sounds like the only thing we can do is embrace Brittney for her own faults, so I celebrate her outspoken anti Americanism and casual drug use. America!

I'm a little sad we didn't somehow put a long term poison or something into him.

It doesn't give me much faith in the people we have negotiating, but let's be honest, the best negotiators probably don't work for the government.

Russia knows they can just be an asshole. There's no win in them giving up more than 1 person. In fact, they KNOW that if they only give up one person, it will cause grief in the US as people yell about whichever one didn't get picked. There is no incentive for them to give up both.

I agree with that, but as a veteran I'm not thrilled with the choice they made. It's simply yet another example of how our government takes veterans for granted and treats them like shit. Also, this is the exact spin being put on it by the Ds.

Although someone might want to tell the WH to not imply there were no negotiations at all.

Kinda sexist to assume the woman needs to be rescued and she wouldn't want the Marine to be given priority since he'd been there longer. It's like they took away her agency because she was just a little girl. So hateful. Fucking Democrats.... no one hates the way they do.
