What new forum (phpbb) things need changing?

Post by TheCatt »

What needs to change/improve?

We've added
* Youtube/Media links
* Profile on left-hand side
* Expanded width of forum.

Comments heard so far:
* Make it even wider (Malcolm)
* Clicking on entire thread, not just the thread URL
* Easier pop-up / way to enter URL information

Quick reply seems inconsistent. Is that everywhere or just some forums?
It's not me, it's someone else.

I've started fixing "Quick Reply." I fixed it in 5-or-so forums last night then got tired of doing it, planning on finishing it today or whenever.

It's still narrower to me than the old forum. Zoomed in to 110% on the browser makes it better, but isn't ideal i guess.

If you're accepting cosmetic suggestions, I prefer the sharp corners and complete grid-lines of the old board to the new, softer, 'rounded-everywhere' look. It suits, somehow.

And the dtman logo instead of phpBB. Gotta have that.

I was looking into that last night, and it isn't as easy as on the old board where there was a setting to just change the path of the logo... at least not that I could find in 10 minutes. But I'm working on that.

The logo up there is stored here: http://dtman.com/forum3/styles/prosilve ... e_logo.gif

Just changing the file at that location will likely do the trick. Be sure to use the same height-to-width ratio or it might squeeze it.

EDIT: Alternately you could change the filename/location in the first global entry in this file: http://dtman.com/forum3/styles/prosilve ... ageset.css

Should I add a new forum, "Health and Fitness?" We have two threads running that are basically the same thing. We could have a lifting thread, a swimming thread, a weight loss thread... a thread for different kinds of diets... a stupid-people-at-the-gym thread, and a thread about how much elderly people suck and need to be rounded up and put into camps.

Don't forget a thread about refusing to exercise and eating your way into an early grave. I'll post in that one.

Quick Reply should work in all forums, now.

I won't because I'm in denial.

Unless anyone can think of any objections, I'll kill the old forum next time I have the leisure to do so.

i wouldn't kill it per se, just renamed/hide it.

Gotta keep a "complaining about old people" repository for future generations.

Might as well watch it crash and burn as the server gets updated.

I don't like how the stickied threads are at the top, not segregated from other posts in the section.
A simple solution would be to unsticky the unnecessary ones.
I sound like Jim Crow segregationist turned Nazi.

I agree, it's be nice if the stickied posts were separated.

Also, Submit should be default button (tab-space), not the preview stuff

I'm noticing that the oldest posts in the General forum are less than a year old. What happened there?

The oldest threads I see were last replied in 2009. You see more than 18 pages of posts? I can see over 60 pages in Internet Links.
