First
keep local available. You will use it to get info on everyone in the
system. Find the bad guys in there. You can get multiple things from
get info. First, you can get their race. Their race gives you a good
idea on what ships they will be flying. That's important when
scanning. Once you learn the race, ask Tas, the walking EVE
encyclopedia what ships that race flies. Better yet, everyone learn
the races and their ships!!
Second
thing is their age. How long have they been playing. This also gives
you an idea of what ships they could be flying. Obviously, the older
they are, the better the ship they could be flying.
After
doing the above, find out where they are. Use the scanner for this.
Start it out on 360. This gives you a long list of objects out there.
Scan the type row for the ship types that person could be flying.
Once you find one, check the name of the ship. See if it's xxxx's
frigate, or whatever. If you see a potential match, narrow the search
down to see where they might be.
I'm
going to try to find Spongebob's Amarr Shuttle. I drop the angle down
to 180. He's still there.
Down
to 90, he's not showing up. So, I rotate my view a bit. I don't have
to turn my ship, only my view. Notice the green area is shrinking
along with the angle. That's basically your scan area.
I
rotate my view counter clockwise a bit, and there he is again.
I
continue to make the angle more narrow. I take it down to 30. You can
see by the green area, that he's some where in the 11:30 range. So,
he's either in the same cluster of planets/stations/belts that I'm
in, or, he's in a safe spot in the middle of nowhere.
I normally
can't narrow the search below 30. That's getting narrow. Also, when
scanning, not only is left and right important, but looking up and
down matters too. So, it seems like it scans in a cone shape beam.
So, if you don't see him at a low angle, and you've scanned left and
right and didn't see him when he should have been there. Adjust your
view up or down a bit.
Once you narrow it down, fly to an object in that area that makes
sense. You can hover over the clusters of white objects in the
scanner to get a list of objects in the cluster. You can then right
click it to get a selectable menu of all objects (planets/belts/etc)
and then select warp to options. So, if you think you know where they
are, pick the spot right off the scanner and warp.
That's all
stuff that Tas would do on our early missions, and I had no idea what
he was doing to see who they were, age, location, etc. So, hope this
helps.
This is ugly. Feel free to rewrite and make it pretty.
