I just hope venom is more then just Spiderman in a grey suit. I'm sure he is though.

I hope this fucking bombs. Though, they'll've to put real effort into it to make it worse than the last two. Topher Grace as Venom is a good way to start.

Emo spiderman?
He probably threatens to cut his wrists if his enemies don't turn themselves in.

Naw, venom is emo, not Spiderman.

I think Disney will make their next kid's movie a hardcore porn before Spiderman 3 flops.
Topher Grace as Venom is a good way to start.
I can't argue with this at all. A horrible casting choice. Eddie Brock is a big fucking dude, captain of the football team and all that. Topher Grace looks like he got his ass kicked by band members in high school.
Hey Malcolm, be truthful, what is behind your total hatred of the Spiderman films? Do you hate Marvel? Spiderman? Raimi? McGuire? Dunst? Are you a Spiderman fanatic who hates how his favorite character is being portrayed? What's the real story here?

Whenever I think of "this is a poor casting choice!" I always think of Keaton as Batman. Since he was great.

I've watched Sam Raimi churn out unabashed shit in the past two flicks. I despise the directing job he did (& will probably do). Kirsten just can't fucking act. I dunno what happened between "Interview with a Vampire" & her later career. Maybe she got hit on the head or something. Every line coming from her sounds like it's third-rate high school theatre. Her dialogue sounds forced, half-assed, or just "wft?" I can't even call the scripts "writing," either. I know I couldn't write shit like that w\ a straight face. My reasons for hating Toby are two-fold. Firstly, I think he makes an absolutely pathetic Spiderman. If a role requires anything of him other than getting stuffed in a locker somewhere, I simply can't buy it. Secondly, his "acting" (I hestitate to use the term) is mind-blowingly dull. His delivery is so boring, it makes Fred Roger's look like Tom Green's.

So, are you trying to say 3 might suck?
Quit beating around the bush and tell us what you really think.

It was explained to me that the Topher choice of Eddie Brock made sence if they were going with the Eddie Brock from the The Ultimate Spiderman, which I gather is like some alternate reality version of the normal Marvel universe. In that one Eddie is a scrawny snivling little punk.

It doesn't make sense if the rest of the storyline comes from the original universe, which it does.
Topher is friends with Toby. He's also young and has a certain audience in "That 70s Show" fans. That's why he got cast. It has nothing to do with the ultimate universe.

I like the idea of topher because I think Venom is better as a scrawny geeky guy that turns into a crazy killing machine better then some meathead jock who does it.

I like the meathead jock idea a LOT better.
Venom is dumb and all muscle. That's how Spidey has always been able to beat him. He was a perfect contrast and already had a built in feud with Peter, not to mention the feud with Spiderman.
Venom as a nerd just means Peter Parker fights himself. That's been done to death.
By the way, I just picked up Issue #1 of Beyond! What universe is that set in? Venom is no longer Eddie Brock, but the Scorpion...?

I agree, never said it was a good choice but thats hollywood for ya, I mean the whole point of venom being huge was that it was due to Eddie being a big guy already. The first time I saw the trailer I saw Topher and didn't eve realize it was him, thought it was just another shot of Toby.
As far as the Beyond stuff, I'm assumings its like the What If comics they used to make since last I heard Eddie Brock offed himself at some point after selling??? the symbiote.
Still going to see the movie obviously, Church as Sandman, have to check that out.

Not so confident now. Just spider man in a black suit is going to be lame.

I am not liking what I'm seeing thus far. Sandman, Hobgoblin, and Venom all in one film? Has Hollywood learned nothing? The best superhero picture involve 1 main villain versus 1 main hero. More villains should only be allowed if there are multiple heros like The X-Men.
And if Venom is just Topher Grace in a black Spidey suit, that is going to suuuuuuck. If the technology isn't there, then don't pick Venom. They should have went with Kraven.
My future sister-in-law loves superhero films, but knows nothing about them. She saw the previews for S3 and told me about it claiming that he fights himself in some sort of inner struggle. I said, "No, that's venom." She continued to ague with me about how it's him in a black suit looking back at himself in a reflection and that it has to do with his inner demons.
The whole time I just kept repeating, "No, that's venom."
So for you who don't know...(click the links for pictures)
Once upon a time a boy named Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider, and due to certain events in his life at the time, he became Spiderman.
His greatest enemy was the Green Goblin who threw Gwen Stacy, Peter's love, off a bridge. When Spidey used his webs to try and catch her, the sudden deacceleration snap her neck, killing her. This was all before Mary Jane Watson. I mention this because Gwen Stacy is in the new film.
Spidey later got teleported the another world with all the other heros and villains from the Marvel Universe to fight in Secret Wars. (Sidenote on that picture: You'll see Storm had a mowhawk, Wolvie was wearing his 80s costume, ditto for Iron Man, the Hulk is REALLY small compared to how he's draw now, and the big guy in the middle is Galactus...he eats worlds.)
During the fighting, Spiderman's suit got damaged pretty badly. He protects his identity more than any other comic character so he started looking for a new costume. Well, he walked up to an alien machine on this weird planet they were all trapped on and a black ball fell into his hand. It then immediately bonded to him and spread across his whole body and became his new suit. It looked like this.
Peter found he could just think about his suit coming off and it would.
He later learned the suit was actually alive and was evil. It was trying to take control of him, so he figured out how to get it off of him (I won't spoil that as it'll probably be in the new movie) and the symbiote ran off to look for a new host which it found in Eddie Brock. They, together, became Venom.
Now one thing you don't see in that picture is his tongue which is usually hanging out, nor can you see his size. Venom is twice as big as Spiderman and much stronger. He can also do the web stuff and climb walls. Venom started off as a bad guy, but eventually turned into a good guy, but he may be bad again, I don't know.
On a side note, a piece of symbiote once was broken off of Venom and attached itself to an insane killer named Cletius Cassidy. Together they became Carnage.
Believe me, if they don't have the technology to do Venom, they sure as hell can't do Carnage.
There you go, the history of Venom and why Topher Grace in a black Spiderman suit is stupid.
P.S. Now Spiderman looks like this.
Tony Stark (Iron Man) made him that costume and it's now mostly metal, including those extra arms.

Update.
The nerds at comic-con got a sneak peek and claim Venom is awesome...?
Also hinted at is that a FOURTH villain is in the movie, Mysterio. Without reading, guess who plays him.

Ashton Kutcher? Wilmer Vandermeer? Steve Gutenberg? Rick Moranis?
Just read it : Ouch, I used to've complete respect for that individual till I read the article.

C'mon, how could you lose respect for him because of this role? If you know him, then you should know why he's even in the film. Does it matter what role he's given? Besides, it's actually kind of a good role for him due to it's nature and his acting style.
