Actually, they got married before she got pregnant, and some woman-problem she had meant they still had to have help conceiving.

What floored me is the fact that she was unhappy with her life, and thought the fix was to become a single mother.

You aren't allowed to think that any more, which was kind of the subtle point I was trying to make. The stigma of this kind of activity is gone, in the face of political correctness, or whatever. And all kinds of new problems are popping up that it is insensitive, and therefore a crime, to mention.

Since the 1950's we have evolved into a nation without stigma. Drug addiction is now seen as a disease, not a personal failure. An unwed, single Father is seen as brave, not 'in trouble.' Being a promiscuous man is seen as empowered man, not a slattern. Men who sire children without responsible mothers are seen as victims, not irresponsible. Men who acquire a venereal disease are seen as victims instead of fools for ignoring all that advice to save it for marriage.

Women are warped.

3 in 5 divorces are because the woman wants it (1 in 5 the man wants, and 1 in 5 it's a mutual feeling).

Yet studies show the women tend to be less happy in each subsequent marriage where-as men tend to become more happy with each marriage. I think the men realize more and more about what they will and will not put up with as they get older, while at the same time having more options as they age.

Actually, men tend to be held more accountable than the women in the last 20 years or so (though the trend seems to be leveling out somewhat). Spend some time in family court and you'll see that I'm right.
