Twister, the movie. - Man vs. nature; Rep vs. Dem Presidencies
"Day After Tomorrow" was about the greenhouse effect & shit. At least shit like that have been observed on other planets (Venus springs to mind) so we got a vague notion of what's going on.
A tornado is a bit less predictable.
If they made "Twister II" today, I don't think you'd see the "Day After Tomorrow" thing happening in it.

You can't honestly believe that? (or do you have faith like a conservative?)
Your saying that Hollywood alters the science (or doesn't focus on it) and content of a movie based on who is the President. I mean that is pretty extreme paranoia.
To further debunk your theory plenty of movies that had bad science or were critical of the government have been made during Democratic terms.
The China Syndrome-1979- anti-nuclear, poor nuclear regulation
Volcano-1997- Poor emergency response, digging subway in geologically unstable area, bad science etc.
Dante's Peak-1997-Fail to evacuate, don't listen to the scientist, etc.
Deep Impact- 1998- ELE-Government tries to hid it,
Armageddon-1998- Need I say anything
12 Monkeys- 1995- Biologic disaster dooms mankind
My point is rather then some conspiracy to make a President look bad it is more likely there are trends in Hollywood. Comic book movies, Natural Disaster movies, Fantasy movies, what ever is hot the studios jump on it.
I think Hollywood is like a Hooker. In the end they will do anything if money is to be made.

And btw, all those movies you listed were made before Bush Derangement Syndrome existed. To reiterate my original statement, those movies, today, would probably throw some anti-Bush bullshit in.
Prove it? Can't. Neither can you. Just a speculation.

I'd wager we know more about the big-ass sandstorm on Juptier that's been going on for years than we know about tornadoes on Earth.I really don't think we do."Day After Tomorrow" was about the greenhouse effect & shit. At least shit like that have been observed on other planets (Venus springs to mind) so we got a vague notion of what's going on.
Why? Cos the big-ass sandstorm has been around for a loooooooong time & we can regularly observe it. Tornadoes are ephmeral beasts.

The other day my mind was wandering and I had a funny thought...
America gets more tornadoes and lightning strikes than anywhere else on earth (if I recall correctly?).
My random musing was that maybe the pagan native Americans laid a weather curse on the country when they got cheated out of some treaty by the government, and the curse was shitloads of tornadoes and lightning.
The reason I made the "we don't know much about global warming" statement is kind of a long explanation.
Start with the fact that there's pretty good evidence that earth weather changed frequently (in geological terms) before man started burning fossil fuels. I don't think anyone outside of a creationist argues about that.
Add to that that global climate is affected by factors we haven't even thought of yet.
There's an old joke in the scientific community about how humans know so much about physics that it has been proven that bees can't fly. It's a little self deprecating joke about accepting the fact that we think we're smart but know we don't know everything. Where does that common sense go when we're talking about man-made global warming? Sooooo many people treat it as an absolute, but it is anything but.
The final bit that makes it bad science is the simple fact that we don't have a control earth with no humans to compare next to our experiment earth with peeps driving cars.
Someone mentioned Venus. Did humans screw up that climate, too? Did it change all by itself? Or was it always like that? Even the Venusian example of "this is the greenhouse effect run amok!" is full of shit. Nobody knows.
The earth is warmer than it was 100 years ago, at least where they had thermometers. That is direct measurement and I don't think it can be argued. Would it stop warming if we stopped burning fossil fuels right now? We don't know, and I suspect that probably not. Earth's weather cycles (verb, not noun), it always has, it always will, and that means before humans were around and Clinton declined to sign the Kyoto Accords.
But when Katrina hit the gulf coast, Al Gore said it was because Bush hated the environment.
Nah, no politics here. Either that or he's just a fucking idiot. Take your pick.

The current change in the global temperature is well within the boundaries set by the geological record, not only in terms of basic temperature, but also in terms of the speed of change. The earth has heated up much faster than this in the past, before people were here messing with stuff. And yet somehow it found a way to stabalize again without our interference then, too.
As long as we don't intentionally fuck with it, it'll rebalance. When we move outside the range of change established by history, then it's time to worry. Until then it's all a bunch of hippy bullshit.

What information did they base that assumption on?Well, as for global warming, my company came out a couple of weeks ago stating that humans are impacting the climate, and that regulation should be done at a federal level to control emissions.
I work for a utility company, fyi.
Maybe they are looking for federal money to install their CO2 scrubbers.

What are the facts about global warming? The only honest answer is: we do not know. Nor is our knowledge advanced by scientists who are not climatic experts issuing sensational pronouncements. Detailed temperature records date only from 1860. These show that between then and 1915 there was no change in the northern hemisphere. Between 1915 and 1945 there was a rise of 0.4C, countered in the following 20 years by a fall of 0.2C. During the remainder of the 20th century there was a rise of 0.4C, making an overall increase of 0.6C over the century.

Al Gore said after seeing "Day After Tomorrow" that is was a realistic depiction of our future unless we do something about global warming.
Al Gore is insane.
“Every record been destroyed or falsified, books rewritten, pictures repainted, statues, street building renamed, every date altered. The process is continuing day by day. History stops. Nothing exists except endless present in which the Party is right.”
The future of the world depends on Dennis Quaid? Well, shit.Al Gore said after seeing "Day After Tomorrow" that is was a realistic depiction of our future unless we do something about global warming. But when Katrina hit the gulf coast, Al Gore said it was because Bush hated the environment.

Oh, and they said "impacting climate" not "causing global warming" or some such.Maybe. I think they are definitely trying to encourage more use of nuclear power. They do, however, already have scrubbers installed/planned to be installed throughout NC through a state-based agreement they made a few years ago.

Yeah, in the sense that a mosquito will impact your car's windshield. You might hear it hit but it wont knock your car off course.

Shit, "several top experts" claim global warming is killing us.

Shit, I just realized something. The weather here is like 30 degrees warmer than it was just 2 months ago. Global Warming is real. It'll be like 170 degrees here by October at this rate.

"The hurricanes we are seeing are indeed a direct result of climate change and it's no longer something we'll see in the future, it's happening now," said Greg Holland, a division director at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado.
