They're free to criticize whomever and whatever they want. They just make themselves look like asses most of the time.

Saying something like, "Damn, that house is way too big for his needs," is something.

Saying you shouldn't be allowed to do whatever you want on your own property is another.

The answer is simple: most people are just assholes.

Ummm, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't new development in your neighborhood increase the value of your home? Oh, wait, she's worried about the increase in taxes she'll have to pay because people are spending money to make her house worth more. . . I celebrate everytime one of the older and/or uglier small 800-1200 ft2 homes gets tore down and a brand new 1800+ goes up. Or the lot is split in two and two houses replace one. Ya, my taxes are going up, but not as fast as the value of my home. And, I want my home to be an investment. Not just a place that I live in.

I have to agree that modern houses are crap, though. IMO.

OK, 2 things:
1) McMansion is a giant home on a small piece of property. Apparently people have forgotten that. 11 acres is large.
2) You own the land, do whatever you want with it.
It's not me, it's someone else.
