If I wasn't getting raped paying into social security, I might be a bit more permissive of taxes.

Well, for some reason they just don't want to talk about payroll taxes... ever.

Way too little reform, but that's to be expected.

IMO, income taxes are the worst idea ever, and were the primary root cause of the moral decay of America.

I still say: one dollar, one vote. Vote as many times as you like, just kick in a dollar each time. And that's all the money the gov't gets.

On the other hand, are you familiar with the "fair tax" that Neal Boortz is pushing? It's basically a national sales tax, and everybody gets a rebate check from the gov't every month or something, which is supposed to give you back the taxes you paid on basic necessities or something.

Because it's almost hidden... you never had that money in your hand, so you don't think about it as much.

Tell everyone who works that they actually have to pony up their cash-in-hand once a year... then people get serious about reducing taxes, and the bloated government that spends them.

And why is it illegal to advertise what the sales tax is on an item? As I understand it.

It's not illegal to advertise the sales tax, it is illegal to advertise a price and state that tax is included.

Although, this may vary by state, since sales tax is a state issue.

Also, it is illegal for a company to pay your sales tax for you, at least in NC. So they can't advertise "sales tax free weekend" or such, they just have to give you the 7% (7.5%?) off.

It's legal here in Texas to advertise "tax included" and to list prices with taxes already included. Not many places do it, but some do. Makes dollar menus at the little mom-n-pop food shops more popular.

All Right!!! Right up my alley. In 1985 a friend of mine cheded me and asked what I would do after Reagans, simpification and tax cut bills went through. I hate to tell you how much my income has increased since his "simplification" All Hail Ceasar.

Seriously. Taxes are a very complicated subject without simply answers. Most of these issues are good. I really really think the Alternative Minimum Tax should be repealed. They giveth and they taketh away. Wrote a paper on this for a former employer who was testifying before Congress on the subject. Take my word for it, testimony really does not matter.

My future is assured, as Catt said, because I have a niche, somewhere and will just charge more to support my children in the manner...............well never mind.

Good luck tax reform. I like a challenge.

Yeah, well, I can't conceive of a reality in which any significant amount of tax reform occurred that put you, my uncle and my wife out of business.
