I'm getting pretty fed up with the constant demand for longer and more insane passwords.
This is especially maddening when games and free accounts for shit like email or iTunes require it.

Text passwords are fucking stupid and have been since the advent of VGA graphics.Leisher wrote:I'm getting pretty fed up with the constant demand for longer and more insane passwords.

1) Passwords should be something easy to remember so you don't have to write it down anywhere or need a password manager. Fail.
2) Machines can operate on text way better than people. Again, fail.
Work has gotten to be bastards about it. The length, content, and history rules are proof that whoever is approving the rules has no idea what security is. They confuse it with lack of usability.
There are numerous visual user verification techniques which have been shown to be thousands of times: (i) harder to crack and (ii) easier to remember than the best, practical text password system.

Malcolm had wisdom on this issue. Text passwords are old school and need to go the way of the dodo. Facial recognition should be standard at this point, with MFA if necessary, and add on a timer of sorts that tracks the time and pings for the response to the facial recognition, which should help eliminate scams...?

I've been very left out of fingerprint biometrics, as I don't have any.
And I've heard face recognition doesn't work very well.

Windows 11 uses facial recognition (as do iPhones, and some Android phones). It's pretty nice to login to my laptop with just my face. Then, some apps even use it to login from Windows 11 on websites.Leisher wrote: ↑Fri Dec 23, 2022 4:16 pm Malcolm had wisdom on this issue. It's not me, it's someone else.

This is an example of how families operate. I KNEW THIS because I have a laptop running W11, but I haven't seen it in so long thanks to my wife and kids that I forgot.
