Anyone have suggestions or have one they really like? The desk I have right now is about 3.5 feet wide, and it's too small. However, it looks like desks are crazy expensive. In college, I made one by putting a spare door from a hardware store across two filing cabinets, but I dont think my wife would go for that any more.

Inherit your grandfather's huge desk. Worked for me.

I have a "U" shaped desk. It's not very wide, but I can put equipment underneath it, and leave the monitors, keyboards, mice, etc up top. The "U" allows me to spread out various systems instead of having them all on top of one another.
No idea what brand the desk is though.

I'm going to build my own when I get to that point in the basement man cave. Also an option.
Nope, don't know how to do finishing carpentry, but I have a good brain and can learn when the time comes.

The U / L shaped desks look like a good idea for me, so I can swivel around to different projects or such.
I looked at some pretty cool homemade ones online, but I have roughly 0 time.

Find your nearest college town. Go on the last day of the semester with a pickup truck Bring home nice free furniture.
I use a horizontally three-tiered desk (tiers overlap slightly and are about three inches difference in height): upper tier on the left has the monitors, middle tier has keyboard/mouse/speakers, and the tier on the right is for ashtrays and TV remotes.
