IBM supercomputer to take on Jeopardy!

I'd bet any video/audio only questions are out the window. I'd also bet strategically evaluating wagers during the final round or daily doubles will be left out. They look like they want to test natural language processing, which should be an interesting challenge. Another thought is whether or not it needs voice recog. to get input or if it's fed digitally.

So yeah, this doesn't look like a machine playing Jeopardy! so much as a machine trying to comprehend human speech patterns. The interesting thought there is what training data did they use & where it came from.

I'm betting a somewhat controlled environment like a quiz show works well. It's knowledge/intuition w\ clear-cut right & wrong answers. The writers also keep things relatively brainless. One wonders what would happen if you converted all the questions to Elizabethan English & gave them to the same machine. Hell, or even pasting in speech patterns from a modern language that's not English.

I'm sorry Alex Trebek, but I'm afraid I can't do that.
