So... I've been frustrated with my laptop lately cuz it bogs down a lot running XP with all the dev stuff I have on it.

So the other day I figured I'd install Vista... in the form of Windows 2008 Standard x64 edition.

So far I really like it. The install is pretty small, and allows you to pick and choose what component you want to install. The GUI is sparse and fast, and I've had no compatibility issues so far. Also, I get to see the full 4GB of RAM my laptop has for the first time ever.

Having a built-in virtualization solution (Hyper-V) is nice, but haven't turned it on yet.

Catt... what do you do?

Last time I really asked you that, you were in the MBA program, but you must have finished that up...

I'm a technical architect for a private equity firm. So I design/code systems, decide what hardware to build, maintain purchased systems, etc.

Only issue I've encountered so far is that installing Hyper-V means no standby feature allowed.

Even when all the pissing and moaning was going on after Vista was first released I was seeing good comments on the 64bit install. Even by people that were bitching about the 32bit version.

I use 32-bit Vista Ultimate on my home workstation/media PC, so that's all I've had to compare. This kicks its ass.

My first experience was Home Premium SP1, on a 32 bit system.

I wonder if I am using all 4GB of my RAM, and I know there's a lot of bloat, but all in all no complaints beyond some drivers being hard-to-find.

Also, aeroglass is useless, if that's the button that "panes" all of my current windows. That is stupid. I never use it.
