I need a small app that can resize various types of image files to a particular dimension and resolution. Ideally, there should be some sort of GUI interface to do this. It has to be usable by a graphics designer & customer support person as well.

It's not a dedicated ap, but depending on what version of MS Office (if any) y'all have, you might see if MS Photo Editor is in there (usually in the MS Office Tools subfolder). It's pretty easy to use and does resizing pretty well.
Just in case you don't find something better.

Appears we do not have Photo Editor. Another techie tried explaining batch processes in Photo Shop to the graphics design chick. Wow, that wasn't pretty to watch. Found something close called Easy Thumbnails, but it doesn't give me control over the resolution.

What about IrfanView?
It's basically a basic image viewer/editor, and it's free.
It's what I give customers who want something to resize pictures. I also like it because clicking the arrow brings me to the next picture in the folder, like a slide show.

Well, if you've got that (and if it runs with command-line options, which IIRC it does but I could certainly be wrong), it wouldn't be too hard to whip up a little batch program to do it for her. Make a folder for her to drop files into that need adjustment and a batch program that just does the Photoshop batch processing on all files in the folder automatically, outputting them to a different location. Then all she has to do is drop 'em in and double-click the batch file icon and the rest is automatic. Nice and brainless.

A while back I found a batch image resizer that I used quite a bit. I probably have it in the ol' waste basket somewhere, but I don't remember the name.

ACtually, I named the folder "Bulk Image Resizer."
How forward-thinking of me.
