Very interesting.,

They even benchmark with SupCom.

I was surprised to see SupCom really DID NOT take advantage of a quad core... since Chris Taylor said it would.

I'd probably grab a Core 2 Duo E6400 and overclock it until it started to glow, if I were putting together a system right now

Yeah.

Don't buy yet.

Intel will be releasing a few new CPUs and cutting prices on April 22. The E6320 and E6420 for example, identical to their 6x00 counterparts except with 4mb of L2 cache. They'll go for $163 and $183 respectively.

Benchmarks for next month's processors with price list:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/di ... e6420.html

A 20-30% price cut is expected from AMD on April 9.

Even now the prices Techreport lists are outdated! The Athlon X2 4600+ dropped to $122] a week ago - faster and cheaper than the $170 4400+ techreport tested (which is actually more like $159).

So now someone needs to plug these new prices into the comparison and see if it adjusts anything. New prices may move around which chip is the equivalent of another, price-point wise.

Hey, these Intel dual-core jobbies... are they 32 bit, or 64 bit? I really don't want to go back to 32 bit.

32-bit, but they have a 64-bit instruction set on top of them, I believe, which allows them to run Windows 64.

So it's an additional software layer? Sounds like you just told me I could run Windows apps on Linux using Wine.
