Anyone remember when I started a chain on this many, many, many moons ago? It might predate this version of this board.

The concept was thought up as a way to get tools to astronauts without sending up shuttles. Basically, they wanted a printer that could print objects with the use of a schematic.

Initially, only IBM and NASA could afford to buy their own units.

Now it appears as though they're available to all.

I just figured that people who need 3D printers probably have 20 grand.

I think we'll see these in homes in the not too distant future.

The technology will get cheaper, it's just a matter of figuring out why people need them. (Besides to make cybering more interesting of course.)

Well, my understanding is that those are more prototyping than anything, cuz they can't print with all possible materials.
