Looks good.

I created TaranTKV (to match my game name) and gave myself 'founder' rights.

I'm figuring stuff out. I like the control you have over stuff. Almost too much. Makes it harder to manage and leaves room for error. But, if we set it up correct from the start, shouldn't need to change anything after.

I created a trade forum that anyone can see/post in. Created an officers forum that only members of the officers group can see.

So that allows us to have different forums for different levels of security.
One for HIGHLY trusted people. (people here, and people we know, but not part of this site. If the shit hits the fan, these are the people we can trust [family/friends irl])
One for somewhat trusted people. (people we met in game that we trust)
One for members. (all alliance members [trade, tips, general])
One for allies. (for cross alliance member chat)
One for our/allies' officers. (for cross alliance strategy)
One for public/nonmembers. (trash talk, allies, etc)

So, lots of options.

I setup some groups, forums and stuff. By default, all users end up in the public forums. From there, we manually put them in the proper group.

Members: General members of the alliance
Allies: Allies
Officers: Officers of the Alliance (this includes strangers we promote)
Leaders: Us and RL contacts

Forum groups are:
Public: Everyone sees this.
TKV: Members and higher see this.
Officers: Officers and higher see this.
Leaders: Leaders and, well, that's it, see this.

I wanted a leaders section so that we as a group can discuss tactics/strategy along with other alliance members in private. I want to give the impression that "Officers" is as high as you can go in ranks. . . but it's not. But don't tell no one.

So, forum rules are: Register with your ingame name and then send me an email message in game saying you registered. Then I will put them in the proper group. Not going to assume that the new user "Gordonesque" is the real one until told in game.

Same with allies. They can email me in game after registering. May give them a permanant title/rank/whatever that includes their alliance name.

I'm going to be updating the world map and putting the new members on there. I don't want that to go public for obvious reasons, so it will be in the leaders forum. Not officers. If a map ends up in officers, I want to try to keep it somewhat inaccurate. :-)

Why can't I find a "Register" button?

You really don't read threads, do you.
So, forum rules are: Register with your ingame name
