I decided to check them out and today the album "Epicloud" arrived from amazon... and I am really digging it. I am having a hard time describing it, so here are some samples.

REALLY digging this guy. Currently have his last 4 albums, and I have trouble deciding which is my fave. Here's a couple earlier works:

Album & song: Addicted! (Live) then Universe in a Ball! then it might actually be the entire album.

<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Album: Ki song: Coast

This album is way more mellow, but still has an awesome dark undercurrent... I've never heard anything like it.

<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

From wikipedia:
Townsend draws influence from a wide range of music genres, most prominently heavy metal. Townsend has cited, among others, Judas Priest, W.A.S.P., Frank Zappa, Broadway musicals, ABBA, new age music, Zoviet France, King's X, Morbid Angel, Barkmarket, Grotus, Jane's Addiction, Metallica, Cop Shoot Cop and Fear Factory as his influences,[63] and has also expressed his admiration for Meshuggah on several occasions, calling them "the best metal band on the planet"

An ABBA discussion came up the other night. See? One can enjoy ABBA AND Metallica.

Hey TPR, he'll be playing in Dallas on January 31.

Closest he is getting to me is 5 hours away in Chicago, boo.

The former is false, fuck those Scandinavians. The latter is also false, depending upon the album.

Dallas isn't much closer at just over 4 hours from here.

Hey, ABBA is way more authentic than Metallica could ever dream to be.

The Swedish version of Dancing Queen is pure genius.

ABBA more authentically sucks. I'd take Metallica's debut album over ABBA's entire discography of shame.

Oh yeah Houston, not Dallas. Brainfart.

I think there might be a Detroit show in February. Thinking about hitting it.

I keep getting one of his albums and think, "OK, this has to be the most brilliant thing he has," then I get the next album and am again blown away.

Here is a song from "Synchestra" called, "A Simple Lullaby" which contains the screamed phrase, "Ready, steady, aim, fire!"

Sweet dreams.

Another awesome one from the album: "Notes From Africa."

I plan to have just that for lunch. It's the second best BBQ joint in Houston, and not a pig in sight.

European metal festival.
30:10 - "Fuck all that evil bullshit, baby... it's time for fucking science!"

Plus the drummer looks like Thib.

There was an album of his released a decade ago that I never bought because the premise seemed silly... Ziltoid the Omniscient. A sock puppet is going to destroy the Earth.

Well the sequel, Z2, just came out, and I kept hearing good things... so I took one of my amazon gift card xmas presents and bought both albums.

Holy fuck, both are great albums.

Ziltoid 1.

This is one of the songs from Ziltoid 2. I could put this one on repeat for awhile. About 15 listens in and I am still catching new chants under the music.
