I've been thinking of ways to make the country burn itself up faster by promoting a liberal agenda. I think Ohio needs to get some Saf Franciscan-style ballot measures going, such as:
1. We need to pay poor people a Living Wage. Anyone working more than 35 hours per week and makes less than $1000 a month should be given a stipend of $1000 per month. To pay for this, everyone who makes more than $7000 per month will be docked $1250 per month. Why the extra $250? Someone has to pay for administering the program, silly. It isn't Fair that someone can be working harder than someone making $84k per year and not being paid a living wage. Thr stipend is renewable from year to year. If you qualify for it on Jan 1, you are good until the next year. The stipend does not count against your ability to receive free Obamacare. If more people qualify for the stipend than there are people making enough money to pay for it, then the amount people pay will be increased to adjust. This will be sold as, "It motivates rich people to pay a living wage to everyone so they don't get dinged for it out of pocket." Liberals eat that shit up, and it will cause producers to flee, which will in turn take money out of the communities and turn everything to shit.
2. Fuck weed... legalize meth. Legalize everything. Every bored teenager in the midwest is taking meth anyway, so fuck it. Legalize it. Freedom motherfucker, do you speak it? Think of the tax revenue! The poor will be supplied with free drugs, btw. Not fair that only the rich can afford it.
3. Free needles/condoms/abortions/ and crack houses in every neighborhood. With all the foreclosures happening, it will be easy and required by every community with a population of >1200 will be required to acquire and maintain a flop house for those needing a safe place to shoot up/snort/smoke/whatever. But to be reasonable, no one younger than 8 will be supplied with a bed or a needle, by penalty of law. It isn't fair that only the rich should be able to get free and clear access to drugs and clean needles.
I bet I can get enough petition signatures to get these on the state ballot initiatives. San Fran already has variations or this shit enacted into law... with the right propaganda and "education" initiatives, we can do the same.

3) Know what's cheaper than paying for people's medical care due to easily preventable shit? Free sterile needles and condoms. Until I get an ironclad guarantee the state, and thus all taxpayers, won't have to pay for other people's medical shit in critical situations, making sure it doesn't happen in the first place seems like a decent bet.

2) advances in technology allow you to maintain your youth, and therefore gun-toting vigour, longer than usual

GORDON, #1 is nice and stupid as you wanted, but #2 & #3 would slow down the crash rather than bring it about.
Although I think #1 would probably be crash neutral overall. It would make a mess of Ohio as the earners go elsewhere, but that's not enough to topple an entire nation. You'd need to make that rule for the whole country to have any meaningful impact.

Some right wing blog stated that there was going to be a 3.8% tax on home sales if the house costs more than $250k. I did a little fact checking... they were wrong. It is on $250k profit on the sale of a home.

Well, you're wrong too.
The 3.8% tax is a capital gains tax. Thus, it only applies to the GAIN when selling your house. If you buy your home for $250k, are single, and sell it for $500k, then only the $250k is eligible for taxation. But, the tax code has a $250k exclusion of capital gains on sale of primary home, so the taxes would be $0.
If you sold the $250k house for $600k, you would have to pay taxes on the $100k above $500k. But you have to do that today, already. The 3.8% is a surtax on top of normal capital gains taxes.
And, the $250k exclusion is double for married people to $500k.
