If you like your vampire movies to follow the lore, this one's not for you. It's not Twilight bad, but these are the worst, slowest, dumbest vampires I've seen in a while.

Very predictable. Very nonsensical. Horrible dialog/acting. So, really, your typical King movie.

I have always thought King was a bit overrated. Do NOT take this the wrong way. He's crazy talented. I just think people tend to gloss over a lot of his flaws.

Not everything he, or anyone else, creates is gold.

That being said, I also think the translation of some of his work to film has failed a lot through no fault of King's. I loved the unabridged The Stand (imho his best work), but I've yet to see it adapted well.

I know Gordon felt the same way about The Dark Tower or Gunslinger series.

There are very few king books that ended up good movies. His books just don't translate well.

I thought the The Stand mini series did pretty good (original one). I thought "It" did well. Even the It mini series from way back. HOWEVER, I had the book to refer to in my head which explained a lot of what was happening. Anyone watching it that didn't read the book probably thought it was stupid. My conclusion over the years, it takes longer than 2 hours, and you have to read the source material.

Shawshank Redemption was still the best movie adaptation.

That's the thing with King though. His true story isn't the story, it's the details behind the story. That's probably why they don't translate super well. His books are 1000 pages of backstory and descriptions, then 10 pages of actual story.

I did forget about It. The original didn't hold up well, but this new version was pretty excellent. Probably the best translation of one of King's stories.

Part 2 was absolutely horrendous though.

It also brings up some proof about my "King gets too much slack" thing. It has some problematic passages, and I believe other works of his might too? He dives too deep into the sexuality of the children in the book. Other writers would have faced a bigger backlash, but he's King.

I didn't read the book. So all I can say is it's a good movie.

The book and the movie are very similar. It's actually a novella, one of 4 in the book. So that length translates REALLY well to a movie. The main difference was Morgan Freeman's character (Red) was Irish in the book. I loved that they kept the name and line about him being Irish though.
