Today I Learned

Post by GORDON »

It makes me think of a conversation from 1998:

Us: are you more of a man if you can bang one woman ten times in a night, or ten different women in one night?
Our boss: Nah, a real man can bang one woman for ten years.

I hope the anecdote's true, too. I've heard it before, and it's hilarious.

The Coolidge Effect applies to women as well.

This is why it is so important to not get into a routine and try new things.

"Babe, let's invite your sister over and have a threesome."
"What the fuck you disgusting pig!? I'm not doing that!"
"Why do you want our marriage to fail?"

A co-worker/friend sent me this absolutely hilariously meme:

So what did I learn? Well, the guy sent it on my phone. I didn't feel like going through the extra steps of moving it from the phone to here, so I just googled "stormtrooper bukakke".

Holy shit. I did not know that was a thing.

No, I'm familiar with Japanese porn.

I meant specifically stormtrooper bukkake.

Phubbing.

I have strict rules about no phones at the dinner table and have recently added a similar one to passengers (ok, only my kids) in my car. I know my dad makes my kids leave their phones at his house when he and my mom take them anywhere.

Many of my friends, family, and co-workers have expressed concern about how much time and attention their spouses put into their phones over them. Nothing good comes from that.

The Barbie movie has a very interesting and amusing bit about...

How a girl purposely hurts a man the most.

When the guy is trying to share his feelings, the Barbies will purposely pull out their phone and start texting someone.

It never occurred to me that sort of thing was actually weaponized, not just thoughtless.

Today I learned a good chunk of reddit, and therefore people, think there isn't actually a shoplifting crime wave happening. They think it's right wing media inventing it in order to make poor people look bad and increase police funding.

Overemployment is a trend of people working multiple remote jobs so they get paid way more.

I didn't know that was a thing, but it makes total sense.

Yep, I heard of that. There was some peeps on reddit a year ago bragging they had 2 full-time jobs they did at the same time. Had a desk with two computer systems, and two cell phones.

Pushing that "IT peeps only do like 8 hours of actual work per week" cliche.

Have also heard of remote IT peeps getting paid $80k salary, and hiring a dude in India to do all his assignments for $30k annually.

I've heard of it. Seen people saying they did on reddit. Had a coworker who did it about 10 years ago, he was bad at his job. I complained about how bad he was (didn't know about the 2 jobs thing until after I complained), eventually he was fired.

Another coworker did it 20 years ago when I worked for the local power utility in Raleigh. Again, dude sucked to work with, I complained, but no one card. Later, the dude was on the front page of the Fayetteville news paper (city about an hour from Raleigh) for stuff he'd done there. His boss fired him after he read the article and realized how little he was doing at his day job.

I feel like these people should have to pay back their salary or a portion of it. You're taking away work from someone else. This negatively affects other people's lives and the economy overall.

Strictly speaking about FT jobs.

I feel like a George Constanza defense would apply, here. "Was that wrong? Should I not have done that?" If a company hires someone to do task X, and task X only takes that efficient person 15 hours a week, is the person obligated to say "Hey I'm bored give me more work for the same pay?"

I say no, but the last few years I find myself giving fewer and fewer fucks for societal mores.

On this topic, some reddit peeps admit they automated their accounting/dbase/whatever jobs with their skills with excel macros, and their jobs now take them 30 minutes per week. Are they obligated to tell the boss, and fire themselves?

In a better world they'd get more responsibility, and a fat raise.

In our world, the company would steal their automation they created and then fire them.

As for Gordon's stance, in a single job situation, I don't give a shit if it takes you 10 or 50 hours. Get the job done and get paid.

My argument was against holding multiple FT jobs without an employer's knowledge. If you tell them and they're fine with it, no problem. However, I would wager there are more examples of shitty work like Catt pointed out then of excellent work like you posted.
