Subtitle Warning!

Spanish film featuring a man who volunteers to be put into a special vertical prison for six months in order to receive an accredited degree.

The prison is made up of many levels and each level has 2 prisoners. Each month the prisoners are moved to a new level at random. Meanwhile, there is this platform right in the middle and every day it drops level by level with food. So the story takes place over a 6 month period.

The symbolism isn't subtle, but it is... I think the obvious one is easy to spot, but the less obvious one involves how they are constantly moved around at random. It's a very thought provoking film. I could talk at length about human nature, violence used for good and bad, and so on. It's all here.

It has flaws, but it's a very well made and acted movie. The man's cell mate when he wakes up is a particularly good relationship. It sets the stage for what's the come. He's your tour guide explaining how the prison works, but the guy playing him is fucking excellent...obviously.

See it.

Just watched it with the kid. It was not subtle. I thought it was an interesting message of
You can't fix the system, unless you're almost literally a once-in-a-lifetime savior. Everyone above you in society will literally shit on you, everyone below you will kill you given any chance, to get what you got.
They're saying there's no fix, and sometimes it is best to "eat before you are eaten." There was no guarantee at the end that "The Message" would change anything.
