Arizona building tiny homes for teachers to rent cheap in an effort to lure them there.

The teacher shortage is yet another sign of impending doom for this country. I just don't get it. Who wouldn't want to be a teacher?
-Summers off!
-Every conceivable holiday off!
-A week long break in the Spring!
-A week or two week break in December!
-Low pay!
-High stress!
-Using your own money to buy supplies for your class!
-Long nights of grading papers!
-Being blamed for why students don't achieve since parents would never hold their little assholes accountable!
-Administration that never has your back!
-Dealing with all the ways mom and dad fucked a kid up!
-Being alone in a class of 20-40 kids!
-School shootings that nobody wants to put in even the smallest effort to prevent!

Major cities joining some rural communities in moving to a 4 day school week.

As the video points out, this results in lower tests scores and more financial burden on families.

The teacher shortage is being blamed.

This is your government failing you. We're spending billions to make sure illegals can live in the U.S. (just using this issue as an example because it's perfect), get licenses, vote, get free medical care, free education, etc., but that same government can't raise the pay for teachers in public schools or increase the budget for public schools?

I said this years ago when talking about post offices.... But the federal government budget has increased 10x in our lifetimes, but now we can't keep schools open 5 days a week?

We still have poverty? College debt is lifetime debt? A medical emergency bankrupts you?

Our system is seriously broken, top to bottom.

Indeed, but absolutely keep voting D or R. That's what got us here and is obviously the solution to fix it all!

Bible banned from elementary + middle schools in a Utah school district due to content.
The scripture was first challenged in December by a parent who wrote in their complaint that they were frustrated by the books being removed from school libraries in recent months — with conservative groups across the country and in Utah taking aim at literature they call “inappropriate,” and which has particularly focused on books written about the LGBTQ community.

So the parent submitted their request for a review of the Bible, saying it was time to remove “one of the most sex-ridden books around.”

“Incest, onanism, bestiality, prostitution, genital mutilation, fellatio, dildos, rape, and even infanticide,” the parent wrote in their request, listing topics they found concerning in the religious text. “You’ll no doubt find that the Bible, under Utah Code Ann. § 76-10-1227, has ‘no serious values for minors’ because it’s pornographic by our new definition.”

The code cited is the Utah law passed in 2022 to ban any books containing “pornographic or indecent” content from Utah schools, both in libraries and in the classroom.

Content aside, should any religious texts be in a public school? Separation of church and state, right?

If you want to argue they should be there for educational purposes when cultures or religions are studied, fine. However, if one is there, they need to all be there so none is given special treatment over another.

There shouldn't be any religious indoctrination in school, but the texts should be available for study/etc. I'll say high school.

I concur. Religious texts as reference materials, not proselytization tools.

LeBron's I Promise school is a disaster.

I respect the attempt to give back, but damn. Maybe check in once in a while?

Every school district about to go bankrupt.
Family of bullied teen who died after student punched him reaches historic $27 million settlement, lawyers say
Diego Stolz's family said they made several complaints that he was being bullied. Their attorneys say it is the largest school bullying settlement in U.S. history.

Their insurance will pay, and they might have increased premiums.

For the typical school board, ignoring bullying, even when it leads to a suicide or death, is their main plan of action. If they kick out an abusive kid (all of the abusive kids, in some districts), they open themselves to lawsuits and they lose the state money from not having another butt in the seat. A moment of silence when a kid kills himself costs them nothing, and maybe they get sued, maybe not.

Eventually the insurance will say they're uninsurable. Or remove coverage about bullying, etc.

That is an interesting cartoon. Not sure if it was intended or not, but it appropriately points out the issues with both sides of the education debate (like the one in FL).

History is such a weird subject when you think about it. Every teacher is going to spend more time on a different topic than others just based on their own personal interest. That results in some kids knowing a lot about the civil war others knowing more about WWII and other knowing more about the Roman Empire.

Additionally, it just keeps getting written, not to mention re-written.

My public school history classes were sort of a "Here's our history, warts and all, and here's 6 or 7 other civilizations who did it differently and they all ultimately failed."

Which doesn't mean our own system won't eventually fail, but it will probably be because we got away from core beliefs.

Your local district may have issues, but it's not Baltimore.
The latest round of state test results is raising alarm in Baltimore City Schools. Project Baltimore found that 40% (13) of Baltimore City high schools , where the state exam was given, did not have any students score proficient in math. Not one student.
...
Six years ago, in 2017, Project Baltimore produced a similar report, where we analyzed state test scores and found 13 City schools had zero students proficient in math.
So I guess at least it's not getting worse?

NC says lets give everyone private school vouchers, regardless of how rich they are.

Thanks, I guess.

School district bans cellphones.

Just absolutely shocking results...if you're a moron.

This should be standard throughout the nation.

The ban has made the atmosphere at Timber Creek both more pastoral and more carceral.
That's an interesting combination.
