Prolly because you can't prove the hackers are state operators. Like spies, you just say "well he's not one of ours" and disavow when they get caught.

Certainly you won't start a war over rogue operators? What about the children?

Even if you cannot prove China is behind it, although I think they can, why aren't we busting ass to get these systems locked down?

Was the attempted (or whatever) water poisoning at the SB in TB not enough to get asses moving?

The focus group says the public doesn't care about it, in an election year. It would be wasted money this year. Plus if China actually damages something it's an opportunity for Biden to be tough in retaliation.

Preventative maintenance doesn't get votes, dog.

Not sure why the MIGHTY AND ALL POWERFUL REPUBLICAN CONGRESS doesn't do anything. They're geniuses and playing 4D chess.

Republican legislators stop democratic presidents in their tracks, but the opposite isn't true. This is why Republicans are Nazis probably.

If I remember correctly, they were labeled "the party of no" even when the only power they had was to block the occasional bill.

It's been a week now, and nothing.

Related: the parent group in between UHG and Change Health (Optum) recently laid off tons of their Enterprise Information Security people, including my brother.

Change Health was never integrated into the other companies though, so this is their own personal shitstorm.

Change gets hacked. Companies cannot get reimbursed. Change's parent wins emergency approval to acquire company that nearly bankrupt from the Change hack.

Though, my guess is this merger was already in the works, and the hack just facilitated the emergency approval vs a normal approval.
