Honestly, we need confirmed accounts on every platform.

One of the biggest problems at TikTok is people creating BS accounts to post the content of other, successful accounts. You know what would fix that...

That is fair, but it's like an executive not giving a shit that there's lead in Spaghetti Os.

I see this in the same vein as Ford executives not having a recall despite knowing people would die because the recall would cost more than the wrongful death lawsuits.

Just seems like it would be so simple to pass some laws that dictated how companies need to respond to actual consumer health concerns. AND actually give them teeth.

I think a lot of the fault is that somewhere along the way the conventional wisdom became "Of course children need access to the internet, and always-connected smart phones." Actual arguments were made, even on this forum, that not allowing children technology at an early age was akin to child abuse. A couple decades ago some people (cough like me cough) were posing arguments suggesting that it might be bad for children to have unfettered access to the firehose of the internet, it was like allowing your kid to wander alone down a city ghetto back alley. We were called old fashioned and dangerously outdated.

And yet here we are, kids all fucked up and everyone pretends to not know why.

Parents should have been policing that shit better, though granted I don't know what all could have been done when kids were always ahead of the tech curve, compared to their parents. 50 people at school could teach them how to bypass net nanny.

The problem with your bold prediction Nostradamus is that there was no way to do anything.

Technology travels at light speed. Culture and society about 200 MPH. The law goes around 5 MPH.

Kids had cell phones and tablets before most adults knew they existed, let alone governments knowing if they should be regulated. And ultimately, what solution exists in our society even if we could have moved fast enough? Banning kids from cell phones/tablets like they're cigarettes or booze?

Money will always put things in the hands of consumers before society may be ready for it. If you want to stop it, you need to create laws that discourage such behavior.

Just point out yet again, lately, here's me saying another "I fucking told you so," to the world. But everyone has the memory of a gnat. "Oh no, *I* never said W was going to bring back the draft and invade Iran. I would never say that." Bullshit. I wish I also had a short memory so I wouldn't have such despair for the future. No one learns anything, no one grows.

And some peeps wonder why I have such a low opinion of the general public.

Identity bit. No Children Allowed if it isn't disney.com. BAM, problem solved, aside from lawbreakers.

I need tech support.

Someone is trying to invite me to a private group. I want them to. They can't, the link I receive doesnt work as "invalid."

I think my settings are locked down to not allow randos to invite me to shit.

I can't find the setting where peeps need to be friended to me, or not, to invite me to groups. Have scoured both web and mobile FB settings. Google is no help, outdated or don't understand my question. "Oh here's how you invite people to groups." Fuck off.

How would an identity bit work?

because instacart has one. And so do doorrdash, etc.
While he delivered to her multiple times, she did say he wasn't the same person associated with the Instacart account he used.

Instacart said that all prospective shoppers must complete a background check that includes a review of federal, state and country criminal records, the national sex registry and motor vehicle checks. Anyone convicted of a felony or violent crimes and any registered sex offenders are not allowed to become shoppers for Instacart, the company says.
I've seen this before when getting a door dash, where the person was not the same. Only happened once so far, and it wasn't at home, was while traveling near Boston.

My dad's business focuses on preemployment screening.

I can tell you from experience that a lot of companies say they do them, but don't actually do it. They basically roll the dice versus the cost of lawsuits. I know, for a fact, there's a cleaning service here in the area who advertises that they do them, but don't actually do them. So female employees might be at the office late and alone with a convicted rapist.

Additionally, there are a LOT of bad firms out there who provide really shitty results. The largest preemployment screening firm in this area used to do them for the city's public transit group. That was until a guy crashed a city bus while drunk. Turns out, he was driving on a suspended license for multiple DUIs from BEFORE his hiring by the city.

FYI, the court systems in this country are an absolutely dumpster fire, in terms of, record keeping and sharing. Also, many colleges and high schools don't want to share graduation records of people, which is insanity.

In those cases, could it be as simple as the different companies use the same cookies?

In my idea, erryone has their ID confirmed as well as it is when they get a "Real ID" driver license from the government, and you are assigned your personal hash code (or whatever). And then this hash code gets assigned to any "official" internet access device you wish to register, and it confirms your ID everywhere you surf.

You don't need to use it, you can still surf (porn) anonymously by logging into your anon account, but then you'll not have access to the sites and services that will require voluntary usage of it. I, for one, would rarely go outside that protected sphere. I want a blanket BLOCK list of idiot across all platforms. Like vegans. I never want to interact with vegans, ever.

There will still be enough internet left to keep me amused, and the rest can remain the wild west of idiots, disinformation, and bad actors trying to sell me something by using hate.

So I get my hash and give it to someone else? Or someone hacks my PC and uses the hash?

I don't know. DNA check maybe.

But why would you ever share your unique ID? It just is. Your access to the net checks it.

Hey look, social media outlets were promoting child abuse and trafficking. Can't wait to see the very public outrage from advertisers pulling their ads from the platforms!!!

Or is that just for platforms whose owner doesn't tow the party line?

Meh. So does the cellular SMS network, and the federal highway system.

I didn't read beyond the headline. Unless the employees knew and were covering it up, story is meh.
