It's basically a 7" smart screen. It has google assistant, obviously. Can play youtube videos/youtube tv/google music, can show the weather, your google calendar, do reminders, timers, etc. And it's a clock.

We have one there, and one in my office.

At the end of the day, it'd be nice if it were bigger.

I bought one. The gfriend prefers to eat food at the table, so I'll thwart her conversation plans with this.

I both like it, and dislike it. I like saying "Play *whatever music I'm in the mood for* "

But then I don't like saying, "What's the weather today." But I wanna see the map to see what "scattered showers" actually looks like for me. "Show me a weather map for today" doesn't work. "Open weather.com" tells you that "I can't open websites." WTF?

And YoutubeTV is limited, on the device. The Google device can't give you full Guide/DVR functionality of a Google service. That is also hella lame.

And finally, it's been challenging to tell it to play music from my network M: drive. WHY would that be hard to set up? But apparently I've got to set up a chromecast or something from the server, and then have super limited functionality. I can't just say "Play music from the M drive," much less ask for a specific album or song. That's just fucking retarded.

1 - Weather radar would be nice. I would expect a gen 2 (and hopefully larger) device out this Fall. Maybe it'll do more with the screen. I did this with a laptop screen a long time ago. But it wasn't a touch screen or voice response, so couldn't tell it to do much.

2 - I've only ever watched live stuff that I want in the background during meals or such. Didn't realize the other stuff was missing.

3 - I always use Google Music.

Wanted to watch the excellent opening NCAAM games, and Youtube TV is broken.

It fixed itself, at least for me.

I'm in a hotel watching live, regular TV and I feel like I'm in the dark ages.

They gave me a free week of service for the 1 hour outage.

I was about to say you should have complained, too, but "ohhhhh, right..."

DVR just got a little better. No more switching recorded shows to video on demand, with unskippable ads.

I want to answer that, but I genuinely have no idea. I don't know what the difference is in the two services. I've been in both, and I didn't see a difference.

FYI:

This morning when I fired up YoutubeTV on my Roku Ultra, I got an error message, something about "Network not available." There was a "Back" button, but it didn't work. Had to hit the Home button and go back to the menu.

Network settings verified, was connected.

Netflix launched.

Googled the problem, there was a lot of talk about wifi settings, changing your DNS settings, etc. I'm hard wired, and this shit worked just last night. But I rebooted the device, reset the network, rebooted again, etc.

Ultimately, the only thing that worked was uninstalling the app from the Roku, and reinstalling. That worked immediately.
