My Mom's bar got a keg from a local microbrewery, so I tried their IPA....
Is it supposed to taste sour? If so, I will not be making an IPA.

If that is the taste of heavy hops, then I am definitely a malt head.

Yes.
And its bitter, not sour.
American microbrews tend to add a lot of hops.
Wait until you try a double-IPA.
I actually have a triple-IPA sitting in my friend's refrigerator, waiting until my next visit.
