Thor Ragnarok

If there's already a thread for this, I don't give a fuck. Fuck the search feature on this 90s forum software. Searching for Thor or 3 in topic titles and posts or just topic titles returned 10 pages of results and exactly none of them had "Thor", hell a lot of them didn't even have a "3"!

Thor 3 will be darker and have more Hulk.

why would you search with an 'or?' use an 'and' and you will see a page and a half of results, and there isn't an existing thread.

Bitches need to chill.

I found thor and thor 2, but no thor 3.

I didn't search for an "or". I searched once for Thor and then again for 3. "Thor" found exactly zero Thor movies in 10 pages of results and 3 found several topic titles without a 3 despite me specifically looking for topic titles with a 3.

The search here is a hunk of shit.

It must be replaced immediately or the terrorists have won.

I don't have a problem with it, Catt doesn't have a problem with it, I think you're encountering a PEBCAK error.

It does seem to be broken in that it reads Thor 3 as "Th OR 3". If you enter Thor 3 and limit the search to just titles you get every thread with either a "th" or a "3" in the title. That ain't right.

Doesn't make it unusable, though.

Just search "thor and 3" without the quotes. You get about a page and a half of results, and it is accurate.

The eternal question has always been, "And replace it with what?"

Who has time to make that go?

There are converters to convert it to phpBB2, which can then be upgraded to 3.

There's an Ikonboard 2006 to phpBB2 converter?

I'd just like to point out that a bad search was made and failed to find a thread that didn't exist, and people are now angry at the software.

I'd like to point out that many folks have complained about the shitty search, IM doesn't work for some people (like you), YouTube has moved on from making this forum software compatible with their embed code, and other complaints have been made, including ones from you. There have also been threads discussing replacing the software here, one of which is where the quote I posted is from.

We're all tech people. We all get its a pain in the ass to upgrade. However, we need to stop pretending everything here is working as advertised.

I will give whatever help I can and I have even offered to pay to move to newer software if needed.

I've done website, DB, and software work. What's needed:

1) The alternative forum software.
2) Make sure the host has all the necessary shit ... I bet G's running with Perl, something new won't be. And fuck Perl.
3) Install & config.
4) Test.
5) Convert old forum info to new format and, I assume, drop in a new DB table.

Who wants to cowboy up? If we're all serious, spin this off to a new thread.

I will provide a copy of the db and the code base, but I am not enough of a scripter to make it worth investing the time. I would spend 20 hours just remembering how to write the script.

Probably want to test the new forum and dbase conversion on Catt's server, and perform a clean install on dtman after the process is perfected.

Or leave it on Catt's server. I never got around to telling them to update the dbase storage space.

Well, the search sucks. This was just one more example of it. And people have been angry for a while.

I have never, ever had a problem with the search functionality.

I'm trying to understand the anger directed toward it, but I use it many times a week and it has always worked great.

It's a bit old and clunky, but I've never had any real problems with it.

Site loads great on my flip phone. Also good for dialup.

Yeah, I've never had any huge issues with it, but the "thor" thing was weird that it parsed the OR out of it.
