Move a poisonous mother in law in for a few years because she squandered a large inheritance, long enough to destroy your marriage, and then tell me again what you think about the subject.

I think you missed something...

The ones in the article are, literally, doing exactly what your statement asked them to do:
maybe old people should have invested more in their retirement so they didn't need to rely on the benevolence of.others.
That article wouldn't/doesn't apply to your ex-MIL.

That's why I listed the examples I did. I thought you were saying people end up in those homes/communities because of poor planning.

McAfee was wrong---maybe---about blacks being immune. That said:
The 10 largest cities (Tokyo, Dhaka, Mumbai, Cairo, mexico City, Dehli, Beijing, Sao Paulo, Osaka, Shanghai), Have a combined population of 231M. Their combined deaths from Coronavirus is 930. NYC has 8M people. And 11,000 deaths. A death rate 200 times the average
If those numbers are accurate (and with some cursory googling, they don't look that off)...he's got a point. WTF is going on? Is everybody else lying/ignoring covid deaths?

I think people in NYC are stupider, in general.

I will believe that average IQ of NYC is less than the Japanese cities. But no way is NYC dumber (or dirtier) than Mumbai or Sao Paulo.

I don't know. Ya gotta be trig to survive the slum streets. NYCers are soft, with soft lives. "Yes there are a hundred drawbacks to living in this city, but I can have chinese delivered at 3am so checkmate, pal."

One hypothesis: NYC has a lot of international mobility. The virus hit there early without any recognition. By the time they shut things down, it was already widespread (anitbody testing shows 22% of people in the city may have exposure to the virus).

I'd like to hear something like that directly from a medical professional, which she isn't? A lot of what she is saying is just shit you could read about on twitter.

Schools are going to be very weird next year.

P.S. Here's another area where we should all be pissed. Many schools were completely unprepared for remote learning, which is insane in this day and age. Why are schools lacking proper funding when superintendents are making ridiculous salaries?

Harvard will open this fall, but all classes might still be remote.

Well, they certainly had more deaths, but maybe overall the people who lived are happier than those who are shut in? Like what is the measurement of success?

Or, maybe so.
Gilead Sciences said Wednesday preliminary results of a coronavirus drug trial showed at least 50% of patients treated with a 5-day dosage of antiviral drug remdesivir improved and more than half were discharged from the hospital within two weeks.
No placebo/control.

Minnesota and Louisiana recorded more traffic fatalities during the coronavirus crisis than in the same periods of past years, even though there were far fewer drivers on the road.
In New York City, cameras captured 296,000 speeders during a five-week stretch beginning in mid-March, an 81% increase from the same period in 2019

I have a theory about NYC's wack infection numbers.

Of all of us, I'm probably the only one who's used Tinder. My area sucks for it... Toledo is just not a super-deep well of attractive people. I had MUCH better success on other platforms.

But I digress.

I always assumed someplace like NYC would be the ultimate Tinder/anonymous sex locale.

And I think 20-something are still fucking like rabbits, because their feels of sad is making them need validation through sex. So I theorize they're spreading that virus like crazy, in spite of the lockdown.
