Another California judge blocks a Trump order.

Weird how Obama was allowed to threaten states about withholding their federal funding unless they adapted Common Core.

And threatened highway funding unless the drinking age was raised.

It simple. If you want to do something progressive (like gender neutral bathrooms) then your state has the right to do it. If you want to do something conservative (even if it's voted for by the majority) then you aren't allowed. Did you think we live in a democracy? We are ruled by oligarchs in black robes.

Serious question I don't know the answer to: Did Obama only threaten those things, or did he actually sign any executive orders trying to enforce them?

I don't have a problem with Judges blocking unconstitutional executive orders.

If we are taking threats at face value, this thread is now terrifying.

Make of it what you will. I don't see that it makes much difference. Dept of Ed was implementing the policy. If a school disagreed they could fight it in court and lose more money on lawyers than they were going to lose in funding.

Thing is, I kind of agree with the court that funding comes from congress and an EO can't stop that. But likewise, a Dept of Ed edict shouldn't stop it either. They aren't congress either.

Sounds like one administration interpreting Title IX the way their base wants, and next one doing it the other way for the same reason.

Seems more like a job for the courts, for sure.

I'm okay with courts stepping in to support and protect the Constitution. Unfortunately we have too many activist judges that want to support the Constitution and precedent only when it suits their ideology. I wish they'd start impeachment hearing against judges that violate their oaths. Not enough impeachment of judges in my opinion.

Actually, they fixed that, and it was only a holdover from an earlier, equally stupid attempt at education reform/idiocy.
Until the Every Student Succeeds Act was passed in December 2015, the US Department of Education had encouraged states to adopt the Common Core Standards by tying the grant of waivers from the No Child Left Behind Act to adoption of the Standards. However, the Every Student Succeeds Act not only replaced the No Child Left Behind Act, it also expressly prohibits the Department of Education from attempting to "influence, incentivize, or coerce State adoption of the Common Core State Standards ... or any other academic standards common to a significant number of States."
Troy wrote: Did Obama only threaten those things, or did he actually sign any executive orders trying to enforce them?
I'm not sure he did anything himself. The Department of Education may have. But again, they were carrying on the stupidity of something previous instead of chucking it out the window at the earliest possible convenience.
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, signed by President Lyndon Johnson, was a civil rights law that provided education funding to states and attempted to ensure that every student had access to an education. The law would expire every three to five years, requiring Congress to reauthorize it. In 2001, Democrats and Republicans in Congress became increasingly concerned by the growing achievement gaps that left poor and minority students in failing schools, and devised a system of testing and accountability to fix it. "The fundamental principle of this bill is that every child can learn, we expect every child to learn, and you must show us whether or not every child is learning," President George W. Bush said in the Jan. 8, 2002, signing ceremony.

Legal ignoramus Drumpf futilely bitches like a whiny tween and openly threatens another branch of government.
Fucktard Drumpf said Wednesday that he has "absolutely" considered proposals that would split up the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, where judges have blocked two of his executive actions.

"Absolutely, I have," Drumpf said of considering 9th Circuit breakup proposals during a far-ranging interview with the Washington Examiner at the White House. "There are many people that want to break up the 9th Circuit. It's outrageous."
He's doing a new twist on the FDR move. Instead of packing the court, he's trying to splinter it.

“Obama’s $400,000 Wall Street speaking fee will undermine everything he believes in,” wrote Vox’s Matthew Yglesias this week. “To fight the rising tide of populism, mainstream leaders need to raise their ethical game,” he argued.
That's an awfully presumptuous quote. The only thing I'm sure Obama believes in is Obama.

Some outlets are bashing Trump for backing down on eliminating NAFTA, shockingly not MSN.

Got to admit, this is probably the smartest route. This is also the most interesting issue for union voters that always vote Dem, but got fucked by NAFTA.

"A large group of Hollywood actors and Washington media are consoling each other in a hotel ballroom in our nation's capital right now," Trump told the crowd. "They are gathered together for the White House Correspondents' dinner -- without the President. And I could not possibly be more thrilled than to be more than 100 miles away from Washington's swamp, spending my evening with all of you and with a much, much larger crowd and much better people."
Hehe.

"This was the most divisive speech I have ever heard from a sitting American president," Gergen said. "Others may disagree about that. He played to his base and he treated his other listeners, the rest of the people who have been disturbed about him or opposed him, he treated them basically as, 'I don't give a damn what you think because you're frankly like the enemy.' I thought it was a deeply disturbing speech."
I guess he forgot about Romney's "47%" speech and Obama's "guns and religion" speech.

Ok, serious question: What have the russians supposedly done to "sway" the election? I keep seeing that accusation, but I never see anything about exactly what they supposedly did.

Even this article was ambiguous:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 16016.html
The intelligence agency is working to determine whether any associates of President Donald Trump were involved in the Russian efforts to sway the election, he said then.
Nothing.

I remember some released emails... was that supposed to be the russians? Are we... supposed to hate them because they published democrat dirty laundry?

And more importantly... do they think that's seriously why hillary lost? Of course they do, hillary just said so.

1 - Hacked the DNC and released lots of emails

2 - Ran a bunch of fake news sites that people believed.
