Al Jazeera changed their headline from "forced colombia to back down" to "coerced colombia to back down."

I guess the people in charge got to work at noon and corrected the message.

You're suggesting it isn't a tonal shift? Then why change it at all?

What are you suggesting? They seem the same to me. But maybe force is too strong/physical implying?

"Coerce" has the tone of an underhanded threat. Force means "willing to bring force to bear."

But dictionaries exist. They have separate entries.

Is 39 minutes a record for the time it took a foreign leader to have his mind changed?

All the fancy brands now come from all across South America, Hawaii, etc. We like Costa Rican.
People just want to criticize and bitch. Any, and I mean ANY, angle that can be used against the R/D in charge will be used. Politics has sadly become less about "what can we do for our constituents" and more "how can we paint everything the other party does as bad".

Mexican president discusses how important Mexicans here are to the U.S. economy.

She's not wrong, but we're not talking about legal immigrants and people working on visas.

Yes, we should make getting citizenship easier and faster. Yes, we should expand the visa program and ensure those individuals are being treated and paid correctly. If we did the visa program right Mexico still gets that big influx of U.S. cash, which is the real reason she's defending them.

However, illegals do not belong here. End of story.

My fave meme today has been "Hey people in red states, have fun picking your own produce."

To which my response has been, "Why, are blue states keeping the labor at slave wages?"

I have seen some GORGEOUS Indian women, but I don't think the % is super high.
Well, clearly they need to come over and get verified. Where's our EO?

Because blue states kept the slave labor. Or something.

Do they understand that the millions of illegals Biden let in weren't here to work in fields? They're in cities, not in rural areas.
A 2018 report estimated that only 4% of illegal immigrants in the labor force worked in agriculture.
Illegals are different from undocumented immigrants and those on work visas.

I wonder if this has changed over time. It feels like they were a lot of illegals as farm workers back in the 90s.

I grew up in a rural area, and we had a tomato canning factory. And we had an actual shanty town next to it, where the tomato pickers would live every summer. And before school let out for summer, we'd always have a few migrant kids show up for a couple weeks, and I've heard stories the local bars would get fighty for a few weeks.

I have no idea of their status. Never occurred to me they may be illegal, but this was the early Reagan administration when everything was awesome

Point being........... I don't know. I never asked, so I don't know if they were legal or not.

The "only 4% is in agriculture" surprises me.

And I think "undocumented" was what they started saying when "illegal immigrant" became unfashionable.

There is a line. A very, very thin line, but a line nonetheless.
Undocumented -
Describes someone who doesn't have the legal right to live in a country. For example, someone who entered the country without inspection, overstayed their visa, or was born to undocumented parents.

Illegal -
Usually refers to actions that violate laws, such as entering a country without permission or evading immigration inspection.
Basically, people who come in without permission versus people who come in with permission, but overstay their welcome.

Probably, but I'm also pretty sure we were making assumptions based on political BS, jokes, social myths, etc.

I saw a government official on CNN or something this week say the number was now 1%. Also, a very possible number based on visas and the similar, but different, undocumented immigrants.

Well....... I mean, if it's required by law they be documented, and they don't have documents, that's illegal.

RFK Jr, the Elon things, were all concerning, but this crosses the line.

Dems need to run ads just showing her face, Trump's support drops 20%.
