Actually, maybe the email said from ten to fifteen. It was a fifty percent increase.

Cold weather must be to Xfinity cable what storms are to direct TVs dishes. Laggy/pixelated signal with choppy audio. It's like having a dial-up connection. What the fuck?

DVR just decided it was full, so it deleted the singular one-hour program stored in memory. It didn't even finish recording the thing my DVR show got wiped for.

Fucking dicks.

And now Comcast is buying them. Great. Are they still last in customer service?

I shouldn't have complained.

Comcast spreading the wealth in DC.

Time Warner emailing me to tell me things are going to be great.

March 2014

Dear Valued Customer:

Recently, Time Warner Cable announced plans to merge with Comcast, forming an industry-leading technology and media company dedicated to delivering great customer experiences.

Above all, this merger will benefit you, our customers. Our two companies have been behind many of the innovative services that you enjoy every day—digital cable TV, high-speed Internet, DVRs, Video On Demand and WiFi in the home and on-the-go—to name just a few. The combined company will innovate faster and deploy even better products and features, including a superior video guide, faster Broadband Internet speeds and even more WiFi access points so you can access the Internet wherever you go.

We expect the merger to close around the end of 2014. In the meantime, all of us at Time Warner Cable remain committed to providing you with great TV, ultra-fast Internet, rock solid phone service and innovative home security and monitoring. And we will continue to make significant investments to improve reliability and to enhance our customer service.

We are very excited about the promise of this combination for you, our customers.
We’ll keep you posted as things evolve in the coming months.

As always, thank you for choosing Time Warner Cable.

Sincerely,
Signature
Robert D. Marcus
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Senate hearing on merger.
I don’t expect every member of the Senate to have a deep understanding of the broadband and television service industry. I do, however, expect them to at least read a Wikipedia article or two before sitting in on a judiciary hearing about the two largest cable providers merging.

“So, generally speaking, cable companies don’t compete with each other, is that what we’re saying?” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) to a very delighted Cohen.

You are retarded. Leave Congress now.

“So in my case I wouldn’t be losing a choice. [And] the theory would be that I could have a new choice with [better] services through the merger, that correct?” he said.

“I should just let you take the witness seat, because that’s exactly what I’ve been saying,” Cohen replied.

Fucking Christ on a crutch, how much did you cost to buy off?

And who's in there trying to point the obvious shit out? Al Fucking Franken.
“My concern is, as Comcast continues to get bigger, it will have even more power to exercise its leverage and squeeze consumers,” Franken said. “I believe this deal will result in fewer choices, higher prices, and even worse service for my constituents.”

Goddam. I actually agree with Franken about something.

Comcast paid off every senator examining the Time Warner buyout.

I figured out after GE lobbied Washington to do away with the incandescent light bulb and Washington actually went along with it that we were done. I have no problem with big business as long as they are part of the free market system, but this marriage between business and government will destroy us.

And not only is it legal, it's accepted practice.

Comcast has unilaterally changed my provider.
As part of Comcast’s (CMCSA) effort to win regulatory approval for its purchase of Time Warner Cable (TWC), the nation’s largest cable operator is selling 1.4 million subscribers to rival Charter Communications (CHTR), and the two companies will swap another 1.6 million. Atop all that, Comcast and Charter plan to spin off a new firm—dubbed SpinCo, for now—into a publicly traded cable operator with 2.5 million customers from Comcast’s former system, concentrated mainly in Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Minnesota.

Aside from the name of the new firm, there's nothing in that announcement that doesn't piss me off. Everyone involved in this merger process can go fuck themselves. The real question is why:
Comcast will net about $5 billion cash from the transactions.

Oh, there we go. Yet again, every legislator that approved this deserves to be jailed for corruption and bribery charges.

Last Monday: Power company replaces a utility pole in front of my house, apparently it was leaning over or something. Happens in the middle of the night. They correctly attach their high voltage stuff, but leave the coax cable simple attached to the pole with a piece of rope in a "not my problem" sort of move.

Tuesday: breezy day and the coax is riding down the pole and the line to my house goes to it and now the cable is about 6 feet above my driveway and my truck is about to snag on it. I contact Time Warner. They say someone will be out.

6 days later:

Monday: no one has come out so I contact Time Warner again. I tell them the pole was replaced and their coax needs to be attached to the pole because it is getting close to the ground. They say someone will be out the next day.

2 days later

Today: guy comes out with a van and a ladder. Looks at the problem. Tells me they are going to need to send the bucket truck out because it looks like the entire pole was replaced and they need to reattach the coax to the pole. I give him my best "no fucking shit" look and tell him that is exactly what I told them on the phone, twice. He said if no one is out in a few days to call back.

Sigh.

No one has been out. Just contacted TW again. They kept me on hold 20 minutes while they "escalated" the call. Told me someone would be out tomorrow with the bucket truck. I am not believing it for a second.

The appointment window has come and gone, and no one showed up.

Shocka.

I wonder if I should just go out and pull down the mainline (ensuring it breaks AFTER my house, of course) and knock out service to the rest of the street, and blame the UPS truck.
