I'm very aware of what went on and it means nothing today. Ignoring better candidates just because you want someone of a specific skin color or sex is racism/sexism. Even if it's done for the right reason.

We're either past this shit or we're not.

I'm also very aware the black woman that gets nominated won't be the most qualified black woman. It'll be whomever was best as playing politics.

Let's say they ignore 10 "better" candidates because they are the undesirable skin color/sex. We put in the color/sex person we want, to make a statement.

Is it all over, then? We already had a black, male President. If we can pretend a black, female Supreme Court Justice was the best person for the job, do we have to continue doing stuff like that, or can we declare that racism has been won? If not, when does that end?

This is an extremely short-sighted take. The impacts of discrimination last.

Uh huh. And the discrimination used to "fix" the previous discrimination has no impact? Seems like you're the pot calling the kettle black.

Evil begets evil.

Hundreds of years of slavery + discrimination >> 20 years of affirmative action

Civil Rights Act was in 1964. There are still people who need a mind wipe, but everyone has the same opportunity to succeed, enforced by law.

I think it's kind of insidious to say that 50 years later black people still need help. It spreads a mindset that they are unable to succeed.

But I don't actually care that much. Not sure why I'm engaging. Sheltering in place and bored already, I guess.

It's ok to discriminate against people who had nothing to do with slavery or racism in the early and mid 1900s in favor of people who weren't slaves or alive in the early and mid 1900s. Why? Because even though the people today not only had nothing to do with any of that and might not even be descendants from those who did (on either side), their skin color was the same! And that's how we end racism! We have to make sure people with a certain skin color are given advantages over people with another skin color because that cures racism.

By the way, country or skin color has a history free of being or owning slaves.

Let's also throw hate crimes in there since they were created under a black president and black attorney general. They're geared towards white people despite the fact that black people commit violent crimes against white people far more often.

Reminder: A black president elected by a bunch of white people who are apparently too racist to hire black people on their own.

All completely logical...

Does Affirmative Action work?

Sanders wins a primary.

One good thing about the coronavirus is we've been spared weeks of election news.

Is Biden an older Dan Quayle or does he have dementia?

It's interesting you say that. I've noticed more and more public speakers going right past clear mistakes. Is this a new tactic being taught for public speaking or are people just becoming more unwilling to correct themselves? (Or worse are we just getting dumber?)

That political ad doesn't move the needle for me. As Thib posted elsewhere, some of his words could be explained away as him getting bad info.

The clip above that...wow. That moves the needle in a big way. This election is going to be between two guys displaying signs of dementia. Awesome.

Bernie was never going to beat Trump.

Biden has a legit chance, but I'm not sure he's going to spark a huge turnout with Ds and Is.

No, but seriously, why isn't anyone talking about the accusations against Biden?

Sexual assault allegations against Biden are getting zero coverage, while Trump paying a porn star for consensual sex was covered about as much as the coronavirus.

They aren't talking about Biden because it's more important that he beat Trump first. Sorry about your sexual assault, but priorities.

Fun conspiracy theory:
Biden-Harris ticket beats Trump as MSM and Ds ignores assault allegations.

Post election Ds and MSM turn on Biden over the allegations and his apparent dementia.

Now you have the first female president.
