It's that guy from the other thread.Leisher wrote: Someone bet millions on the Eagles.
It'd be awesome if it turned out to be Belichick.

I know this sounds crazy, but Cleveland fans really wanted Alex Smith and there are reports that they tried to trade for him.
The idea was Alex would be an immediate upgrade over the QB's here and he could usher in and mentor whatever QB they take at #1. The last thing Cleveland needs is to throw yet another rookie QB right into the mix and ruin him for life, they need a quality veteran and Alex would've been perfect for that.
While i understand that the Skins are in a different place than the Browns and Alex probably isn't the answer to a Super Bowl, this trade really disappoints me as a Cleveland fan.

Any member of these forums would be an immediate upgrade over the QBs there.
But seriously, I get what you're saying, but there's a LOT of veteran QBs out there you can grab to throw in harm's way and train your noobs. I know Smith could win and was arguably the best of the lot, but he also sucked in cold weather.

The thing that bothers me the most about this is that the Skins gave up only a 3rd and a nickle CB, Cleveland has three 2nd rounders!
So now they have let Jimmy G and Alex Smith get away for much less than the Browns could have offered either team. Either the Browns GM's are asleep at the wheel (we have a brand new GM by the way, the same one that traded for Smith and brought him to KC). Or these QB's are begging their teams to not send them to the QB hell of Cleveland and their teams are actually accommodating them and taking less of a trade deal! that sounds absurd!!

Do not discount this as a real possibility.
Would you want to play for a team that's a perennial loser? Sports careers are fleeting. Why waste time in Cleveland? Additionally, it's just going to end up with you training your replacement sooner rather than later. Cleveland isn't looking for someone to take them to the promise lands. They just want a placeholder until they find that guy.

While i completely understand the sentiment that a guy doesn't want to play for Cleveland. I don't understand why a team would take a lesser value trade to accommodate a player. This is business, since when did an NFL team care about where a player went or how they felt about it? Its the teams responsibility to get the best value in a trade is it not?Leisher wrote:Do not discount this as a real possibility.

Now we don't know what Cleveland offered in the Jimmy G or Alex Smith trade but we DO know that in both cases the team stated that they "tried" to acquire these players. It befuddles me that a team with these kind of assets continues to fail to attain something that they need so much.

FOX gets Thursday Night Football.
A huge win for Gordon because he hates sports and doesn't have FOX (still?).
The Smith thing had to be the player's choice or maybe Cleveland, legit, was offering too little?

They fired Belichick so they had zero shot at Jimmy G.
