Nobody said the boycotts were ineffective. What was said is that it's a really small percentage of viewers.
The MSM tried to paint a picture where everyone who stopped watching did so because of the actions of 12 or so players, and it simply wasn't true.

That Shazier injury took all the life out of the Steelers immediately. He went head first into that Bengal and grabbed his back. Seeing another grown man crying over him...not good.

Goodish possible news.
Tuesday morning, NFL Media reported Shazier has had "some movement in his lower extremities, but the next 24-48 hours are key for increased improvement."
...
The team was told Shazier has a spinal contusion with some swelling involved. They won't know more until the swelling goes down, but it is encouraging news for Shazier. Former Steelers quarterback Tommy Maddox had a similar injury in 2002 and missed just one game.
