The fertility rate might be up in the past, but that's only because the birth rate was up, and mortality across the board was waaaaaaaay up.

So the past was gayer, but most of the gay was babies that may have died young.

Hey, mothers may have been fertile up to 2/3rds of their life. But only because they probably died in their late 30s.
