Gordo got his server online last night and I was able to jump on via the IP, but it wouldn't appear in my normal list of servers. Yes, all filters were off.

The odd thing is that multiple servers weren't appearing for me, including a few servers in my "History" tab that were obviously up and running.

Anyway, I had ping of 80 to Gordo's server and everything look smooth when he and I were testing it out.

Since we got his server up, but weren't convinced anyone else in the world could see it and join, we jumped onto FNF again. That server is easily my favorite server. Possibly the best server I've played on for any FPS multi game.

The FNF server (if anyone needs it I can get the real name and maybe IP) has a 24 player limit and it usually is full. They run all the TF official maps in a smooth rotation.

Every time I've played there I've seen a lot of the same players, which is a good sign. Those players don't all sign up for the same team either. Every game seems to have everyone simply choosing "Random" rather than Red or Blue.

The matches usually turn out to be pretty tight due to well balanced teams. Sure, sometimes things can get lopsided, but that's normally not the case.

One of the best things though is that they're actively booting and banning people. Gordo, did you see how many people they were tossing last night? I think I only saw one actual permaban, but there were at least 3-4 other players thrown off due to high ping times with an apology.

On to the game play, loads of fun last night. I spent most of the night as a medic or pyro. I actually got on the top three scoreboard after a round, which on this server is saying something. I also unlocked about 6 achievements, which was very unusual. I'm pretty sure I got a couple while running around healing Gordo.

I didn't notice anyone banned. Not sure how I missed that.

I also played the medic for the first time last night, and I uber'd Leisher once or twice. That was cool.

Also tried the spy, and my first spy kill evar was when I snuck up behind an enemy engineer and backstabbed him. Which, in retrospect, I should have taken out the turret first because as soon as I backstabbed the engineer his turret swung on me.

The ban and boot messages appear in white writing in the bottom left.

Yeah, the uber is cool. Ubering friends is apparently an achievement as well. We need to get some more dtman peeps on here.

I'm going to continue to focus on the pyro and medic when I'm playing this weekend. I'd like to continue going for their achievements and upgraded weapons.

Just noticed that at least one random person joined the server last night, so it must be visible.

Played on FNF again tonight. Good matches early on.

I've now got the flare gun and the level 10 flamethrower for the pyro. I got about 6-7 more achievements too.

Things got ugly later though. Around 2ish(maybe earlier), 3 members of a guild (I think it was [K][R]) showed up and were always on the same side. The problem is that their weapons were ridiculous. One of the regulars noted that a scout shot him for 106 when he was a soldier. That's a single shot. When I had my normal flamethrower, I'd drop guys without a problem, but with my level 10, I'd hit these guys for a while and they wouldn't drop.

I don't know if they had every achievement or something that gave them perks, but their abilities were noticed by a LOT of people on the server.

I hesitate to call it blatant cheating considering I don't know every stat of the game yet, but stuff was occurring that I've never seen and enough players were griping that I knew something was fishy.

For example, their heavy weapons guys could instakill from a distance. Not sniper range, but far enough to know that it shouldn't occur. Not to mention that it literally took one bullet from their gun to drop a fully healed player.

IF those folks were cheating, I'd only ask them a single question: How small does your dick have to be that you get an ego boost from cheating in an online game? I mean, does that serious make someone feel like they've accomplished anything? I've never understood that behavior.

On a different note, some chick named Emily was playing on FNF tonight. Seemed like a regular as folks knew her. Yes, it was a chick as she had a mic. Not sure she was good, but it was cool to see that the game has that kind of appeal.

In related TF2 news, did you guys see this?

If they were anything but a medic or pyro and they were doing more damage then anyone else of the same class then I would say cheating. I don't know all the ins and outs but medic and pyro are the only ones that have gotten the updates and new weapons with the heavy being next.

Told me what?

Saturday night I found another new server called "The Pie Hole" or something. My ping to it was 5 at times during the evening. Great matches with very little bullshit. I didn't see anyone cheating nor complaining. I was back on FNF this afternoon and things were back to normal.

Overall, I'm at like 30-something achievements. I have the upgraded flamethrower, the flare gun,and the upgraded ax.

I've got a few more easily obtainable achievements that I'll probably try to get before the night is over. After that, I'll probably switch to the medic and start building my progress there.

When I was telling about my first ever game, I said I was getting 1-shot killed from across the map by heavies.

Ah. Across the map, instakills by a heavy would be bullshit. Up close, not so much.

I'm up to 40 achievements and I'm 20 kills or so away from "Hardcore" (1000 kills).

Had a few kick ass rounds last night, including one 40+ kill round with half as many deaths. I also got head shot a few times by Bad Horse who always seems to be on opposite teams from me. He got particularly personal later in the stages of one board. Maybe he was upset about me setting him on fire earlier?

Speaking of Bad Horse, and anyone else who has TF2 and wants to join us, let me know if there's anything I can help you with in terms of achievements. I'm not talking about "cheating" to get them either.

My list:
-I know I need the Pyrotechnics badge, which is me flaming and killing three folks while ubercharged. I get ubered a lot at the beginning of stages, so I'll probably get this eventually, but it does bring up a great tactic. If we're ever on a team and one of us is a medic and the other a pyro, the medic needs to charge up during setup and once the horn blows, both hold for three seconds to let the other side do what its going to do. Then both rush forward and when the first shots are fired, unleash the uber. The pyro and the HWG are the only two classes worth ubering.
-One of the achievements that is stupid and why you'll see a lot of pyros taunting is getting three people to take a screen shot of you taunting. So I need Bad Horse and Cake to take a picture of me taunting.
-I also need to kill two more people while they're taunting.
-And a spy whose flipping his cigarette...
-And 8 more people underwater
-And a few peeps with my ax.
-Other than that, I'm mainly working on damage and kills. I need around 100 or so more for 1000 kills with a pyro and about 800000 points in damage for the 1000000 achievement.

But I'm not married to always being the pyro. Thus, if anyone gets on and wants to work on pyro, I'll jump to Medic to help out.

I'll be on most nights this week after 10 and I'm home again this weekend.

The only two servers I've been playing are FNF (Saw FNF members on that server for the first time last night.) and House of Pies.

FNF we all know and has been great. I'm actually starting to recognize the same folks and vice versa. I've noticed being mentioned more in the chatter that goes on.

House of Pies is very similar, except my ping times are ridiculously tiny. Great action on that server, as well, which was great this weekend when nobody was on FNF Saturday night.

Anyone know where the developers' forum is located? I'd like to go check it out and see when the next class is getting upgrades. I've heard Heavies are next, but someone is game was discussing the Scout. (Although, I think one of the biggest complaints is how overpowered Scouts are.)

Ha.

Nah, I never single anyone out....unless they are a nemesis. Of course you pick them out of a crowd. And honestly, I don't remember killing you more than 2 or 3 times.... must not have noticed. I DID see someone, though, whining about getting killed by "sniper spray." Yeah, snipers just have such rapid fire and they just spray into the group.

And yes, noticed the several times you set me aflame. Often with help, which makes you a lame ganker who can't 1v1. Lol, and might I add, wtf.

As for teams, I always choose red first, by default. Just FYI.

How do you see what achievements you have? I've never really paid attention, I just try to be the best player I can be without needing a bunch of recognition, or prizes, or whatever.

Holy crap, I just opened my Steam server list looing for achievements.... DTMan HAndle was right there at the top of my list. We ever going to play on it?

FOund the achievements, and looked through them... if I let my hyper-competitive wife see those, she might actually start playing if only to have more achievements than me and then be a really shitty winner about it.

You got a few assists on me when you were a medic, but I also got a few flames on you and your patients. That was early on though.

After that, I think you got me three times as a sniper. Twice while I was in that circular bunker at the last corner before the final checkpoint.

I soooooo have a joke ready to go that'll make you bust out laughing, but it's going to have to be perfect circumstances. I'll have to pyro, you sniper, opposite teams, enough distance between us to make it funny, and of course, you not shooting me dead before I get a chance to do it.

As for the server, I don't know, can we get anyone else on it? I looked all weekend and never saw anyone on it. Unless we can dig up a hand full of other folks to come play on it, we'll probably never pull in the crowds FNF and House of Pies get.

I think we should hold a dtman.com contest where prizes will be awarded to peeps who start playing TF2 with us. Then we can get us all on that server, and other people will start showing up. Once we get on a few favorites lists, we're set. IF you want the hassles.

Of course, we could always use it to test out tactics and such.

The achievements are fantastic, despite a few being kind of dumb. The worst one is the picture one. Who takes screenshots of Pyros taunting?

P.S. I'm going to send Dawn a friend request on Facebook and tell her all about the achievements.

Portal has achievements too...

I actually suggested to her last week that she play Half Life 2, since I have one to give away, and she has a PC that can run it. She used to play Duke 3D.

Ah yes, I remember that kill. We never managed to get a permanent foothold on that corner, and couldn't finish the final checkpoint. I killed A LOT of people in that little circular bunker last night.

Maybe....MAYBE.... if we start playing on it, other peeps will jump on. Personally, I never get on a server with 0 other people on it.

Also..................... if it turns out we hit a bandwidth/hardware limitation with more players, I know of a faster server on a business-class cable modem I can surreptitiously co opt.

What are the rules of Steam? I just installed it on this PC here at work (it's my "private" one as opposed to the one I do all my work on) and I'm curious to see if I can install TF2 or any other Valve/Steam game I own to play during lunches.

I'm assuming I can. I even saw someone booted last night from a server by the Steam servers with the explanation of "Player JohnDoe has been booted as his account just logged onto another session elsewhere." or something to that effect.

I actually suggested to her last week that she play Half Life 2, since I have one to give away, and she has a PC that can run it. She used to play Duke 3D.

Get her started with Portal and get her ass out here in TF2. The more people we know playing the more fun we'll have.

Ah yes, I remember that kill. We never managed to get a permanent foothold on that corner, and couldn't finish the final checkpoint. I killed A LOT of people in that little circular bunker last night.

That was an exceptional round. I played every single class during that round as I'm working on the achievement asking you to play every class in a single round 9 times. That was #5. The sniper was a lot of fun on that map and I stayed alive for quite some time, but died as all snipers do with a knife in the back. Fucking spies.

Maybe....MAYBE.... if we start playing on it, other peeps will jump on. Personally, I never get on a server with 0 other people on it.

Well, since it's so underpopulated, I wouldn't mind jumping on to test voice chat. I'm hoping I can just plug in my headphones and mic and be good to go.

If you're a spy, would it be possible to sit in the middle of a map, disguise your self as a pyro or something, then wait for a medic to come to your area, call him over, let him start healing you, then lead him into a sentry trap?

I think that'd be hilarious.

Just learned a new thing the pyro can do. I knew I could push around the demoman's stuff, but apparently I can do the same to rockets.

Also, last night at some point, FNF have friendly fire on, which SUCKED. Spies run wild in those conditions.
