It does look floppish. Definitely an elbow, but her reaction to it was not equal and opposite. She added some flair to it.

I don't think she flopped, but it wasn't an egregious elbow to the head, more of an upper arm to the head. Should have been called a foul.

It almost looks scripted. . . She's on the one defender, then separates and seems to look at the other defender coming, gets into position, braces for impact and throws her body back. Obviously they didn't plan this, but nothing about the whole thing looks natural. But maybe that's just because it's girls playing sports. :-)

That's why I think there's a flop in there.

Elbow to the head, yes.
Body/waist push as well, yes.
Enough to knock her off balance, yes.
A foul, yes (I do believe the defender knew what she was doing).
Egregious? I'm not sure. I don't know the official rule. She was playing physical, throwing an elbow, foul. But it doesn't look like she was trying to take her head off or hurt her. I don't know where they draw the line. My line says, not egregious. Just a foul.
Could she have avoided it? I think so. I swear it looks like she knows it's coming and prepares to throw herself to the floor.
Did she embellish her reaction? Yes.

So, my analysis:
Foul - yes
Flop - yes

This is such a great example of how delulu our society has become.

Your league doesn't make money. If the NBA didn't subsidize it, it wouldn't even exist. You physically and verbally attack your best player, and the only one moving tickets, at every opportunity. Yet, you think everyone in your league deserves to be paid NBA salaries.

Instead, they are lobbying for a fairer percentage of the league's shared revenue. WNBA vet and Los Angeles Sparks star Kelsey Plum said it best back in 2022: "We’re not asking to get paid what the men get paid,” she said. “We’re asking to get paid the same percentage of revenue shared."

Over in the NBA, revenue (TV deals, ticket and merchandise sales, etc.) is split evenly between players and owners—players receive between 49% and 51% of basketball-related income.

In the WNBA, players reportedly only receive 9.3% of league revenue, per Market Watch. That single-digit percentage is much lower than what other athletes in professional sports leagues earn (NFL and NHL players also get roughly half of all revenue).
That's not a super unreasonable goal. HOWEVER, it ignores the fact that the NBA/NFL/etc can share ~50% of revenue, because they have SO MUCH of it. Fixed costs are high, so the margin (especially in the WNBA) just isn't there to share. In 2026, the new TV deal will go from about $40M/year to $200M/year (WNBA lost $40M last year).

Current league revenue is about $200M, and players get ~10% of that, and losing $40M.

With the new TV contract, (assuming everything else stays the same), that'll be $360M in revenue, and a net profit of $120M. There's suddenly a pie that can be shared. 50% of revenue being salaries, would increase costs by (360/2 - 20 = ) $160M, so they'd be in a $40M/year hole again at 50%. Breakeven would be around 38% of revenues.

So there's definitely room for growth of their salaries.

Angel Reese more recently has said they deserve to be paid what the men get paid. To be fair, she's possibly one of the dumbest and most narcissistic human beings on the planet.

As professional athletes, I definitely feel like they should make more, but is the money really there? What happens if the NBA pulls funding? What happens with the new TV contracts if the ratings don't meet expectations? What happens if their clearly braindead, racist, and sexist players murder their only marketable star?

Interesting coincidence that the WNBA and the Colbert show both lose $40M a year.

The NBA owns 50% of the WNBA. So they probably want it to keep growing, and are willing to live with losses for a while as it grows. As far as I could find out, their contribution is only about $15M/year. So, with the new TV contract in 2026, that should no longer be necessary.

I forget why they did the WNBA in the first place. There was a real reason besides trying to make a viable entity.

I hope they do find success, but despite what tons of feminists are claiming, opportunity isn't why it will never be as big as the NBA.

The jokes keep rolling as a fabricated quote from Angel Reese has gone viral, with the meme claiming she said, “Y'all make $1400 a week, I make ...

Google's AI, literally, said it was a real quote. Maybe AI will kill us all because it's stupid, not because it's super intelligence determines us a threat or something.

Related:

This is real and from the ESPY's last week. These are all pro athletes in the audience. If they don't know who the fuck you are...

Nah, it was a quick check. Half the articles you read in the MSM are AI written these days. I'm not deep diving Angel Reese. Someone else can waste their time doing that. Plus, based on the shirts and their entire pay argument, it absolutely matches the level of intelligence at play.

I feel like this is going to be another Hostess where the employees demand so much from the owners that the owners finally say 'Fuck it' and just shut it down.
