Well, it was interesting seeing Timothy Dalton.... that was a real HOLY SHIT turn of events.

"Still not ginger, good..."

So what is the consensus on this current Doctor... do we like him as much as Tennant? I assume he didn't regenerate again at the end of this season.

I am only 2 episodes in to the season, so far. Not feeling him, yet.

I like him a lot. He's got plenty of "holy shit that was cool" moments in him. Plus he works really well with Amy Pond, and I think she's just awesome.

I will agree that he's so far much less nuanced than the last two doctors. The show has been through some heavy shit the past few years, though, and it's nice to move to a more lighthearted adventurous pace for a while.

Finished season 5, all caught up.

1. Still very excellent.
2. Matt Smith took a while to grow on me... I really only got comfortable with him in the last third of the season.
3. Very cool how they obviously wrote the entire season ahead of time.
4. "It's a fez. I wear a fez, now. Fez's are cool."

Heh. I liked the fez.

Very cool on the last episode, wasn't it? I mean, like I said before, it didn't make a damn bit of sense. But it was mighty cool.

I was predicting...

He told her "Your parents will be back."

I thought maybe he and River were her parents, and he'd be back for that reason.

Christmas special has been filmed, and they've started shooting the 6th season.

Rewatched Season 1 Ep 1 "Rose" with Eccleston again, with some people. Lots I didn't notice the first time around.

In Rose's flat he looks in the mirror and checks himself out, says something to the effect of 'not bad, what's with these ears?' which sort of alludes to... he just regenerated, and didn't know what he looked like, yet.

Do we know why he recently regenerated?

Depends if you ignore that god-awful made-for-TV "Doctor Who" movie.

I still love Daleks shouting in German. It sounds like their natural language, heh.

I was looking for the trailer for this year's Christmas special online (it is airing Christmas, 9pm eastern on BBC America) to show my kid, and found this one.... I was really excited for how stylistically different it seemed from the previous episodes.

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Then I found out it was a fan trailer. Damn, and wow. Well done.

Christmas special: Well, I really liked it. I've been reading a lot of bad reviews. These people are dead inside.

I think the reason everyone has to make an extra effort to feel good around the holidays is that it usually forces you to interact with people you don't see the rest of the year. And then you start to remember WHY you avoid those folk and then wonder why the fuck these arbitrarily chosen days on the year require you to call a ceasefire to such things.

I find myself with a bit of a negative bias towards any TV show or flick that uses Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, or other "family" holiday as a backdrop. I think the last Christmas movie I remember liking was "Bad Santa," precisely because it seemed anti-Christmas in every way.

I read somewhere that the point of having a Doctor Who xmas special is that very reason... you are exhausted from the holiday and all the family, so at 9 pm, kick back and have some new Doctor Who to make you happy again.

I know it worked for me.

Were the episode non-Christmas, I'd be down for it. Around Christmas time, the last thing I want to think about is Christmas or any other major holiday.

New season satrts Easter, "The Impossible Astronaut."

And, here's a little Who sketch that was filmed for some British thing.

I could definitely find a use for 2 Amy Ponds.
