I thought I'd mention, the guy who played Spike sang for a band in L.A. I knew a girl who went to see them play and despite the fact that she wanted to hump him desperately, she said the band (and his singing) was far from good.

Amazon just sent me Season 3 & 4 (plus The Guild season 1-3).
Also, Season 8 must have kicked ass in comic book form (I know it did critically, but in sales as well) because it was announced at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo today that Buffy Season 9 would follow it in 2011.

Season 8 does indeed kick ass. Glad to hear there will be a season 9.... though I wait until the books come out that have 3-4 months in one volume, so I will be waiting a while.
I also enjoyed the Angel season 6 comic.

Really? That's kind of a bummer. I always just assumed that at the end of Angel everyone died. It seemed like a good way to end the series.
I figured Joss of all people would be willing to kill off an entire world that he's set something in.

Really, it doesn't suck. And not EVERYONE dies... but there is a body count. You know how Whedon is.
It made sense they went the way they did.
HOWEVER... I am learning that one should read the Spike trilogy, first. Otherwise there are gaps in the Angel storyline where things just kind of exist without any "how did that happen?"

I'm starting to second-guess this statement. Spike: After the Fall is probably necessary, but the 2 that came before that... maybe not. I am contemplating not bothering with the first 2. I'll let you know.

ALSO... for those of you just starting to get into the serieses, I'd recommend this Angel box set. You WILL end up buying them all anyway, so you might as well get them all in a nice box.

Season 3:
Is the entire season just romantic plot lines?
Spike's return for an episode was great. Best episode of the season so far. (I'm only on the 3rd DVD.)
The alternate reality episode was interesting, but wasn't executed particularly well.
P.S. Gordon, since you seem to be educated on this, give me a list of what I should watch and in what order. For example: Buffy Season 1-3, Angel Season 1, Buffy Season 4, Angel Season 2...

There's a point where Angel leaves Sunnydale... it is a plot point so you can't miss it.... that's where Angel-the TV series starts. I *think* Angel season 1 is in Buffy season 5... I would watch S5D1 of Buffy, then S1D1 of Angel. S5D2 Buffy, S1D2 of Angel. There is a bit of crossover, and that helps keep things straight. Of course the absolute best way to watch would be to match up the original air dates and keep them in order that way, but that's almost like work.
Also, IMO, Season 5 (I think) was the weakest season. The season of Adam and "The Initiative."
Also, Spike becomes a much bigger character, so hang in there. I wish Dru had been in more episodes... I liked her insanity.

One of Angelus' finer pieces of work.

The Xander episode was brilliant. Moving the major players to the background with their significant storylines to focus on developing a supporting character takes guts, but was done very well.
I was playing Red Dead Redemption while watching it, so I wasn't paying attention as closely as I should have...plus, I'm not a Xander fan. Anyway, I think that helped me enjoy the episode even more because I had to pause my game to catch up with what was occurring.

IS that the one where at the end the "mains" are sitting around talking about how that was their most brutal fight ever... and we saw none of it?

Yeah.
The cameras followed Xander the whole time, and you'd only see the Buffy/Angel/Giles/Willow/Gates of Hell battle when he happened to pass by it.
I think it's so brilliant, not just because of how it handled all that, but also because it's EXACTLY what Xander's character needed at that moment. Cornelia hits the nail on the end when she talks about how worthless he is to the group. Williow is a witch, Oz is a werewolf, Buffy is the slayer, Giles is (was) her watcher, Angel is a vampire, Faith is another slayer (I assume just waiting around to die - don't spoil it for me!), and even Cornelia fills a role as the "normal" who is skeptical of it all. She literally comes across as the most sane person in the room.
And then there's Xander. He's a dork. He's worthless in fights. He's stupid. He serves no purpose other than being a distraction. His character needed this episode to establish that he was worth something. I still think I'd like him to die before any other members of the cast (I seriously think Faith is a deeper character than he is at this point.), but at least he's become tolerable.

Thanks for the warning TPR. I'm averting my eyes.
As of right now, which puts me at 3 episodes left in season three...
The mayor is fantastic. By far the most interesting character this season. He's actually the most interesting character I've seen in a show in a long time. I am going to be bummed when he's gone.
I like what they did with Faith. I was worried that she'd simply be another...what was that other slayer's name?
I think they fucked up with Snyder, the principal. If I remember correctly, at the end of season 2 he was talking with the mayor(?) about covering up what was going on in town. Then in season 3, he's a clueless clown worried about kids dealing drugs and has no idea what else is going on, or at least, that's how it seems.
I plan to have season 3 done before bed tonight. We'll see. Starting "The Prom" now, but the family is on their way home so that might put a wrench in my plans.

Thanks for the insertion, Gordon, I missed the key bit of communication that made it worth marking that as such. It wasn't in any way important, so I deleted it to clean the thread.
Sorry, Leisher.
EDIT: I find it very interesting how much the modern habit of time-shifting has effected the way people talk about entertainment. Before the TiVo people rarely spoke of spoilers, and before VHS brought the movies home I doubt anyone had thought of the concept as becoming commonplace. I have nothing further to say on the matter, though, which is why I'm just rambling here instead of making a thread.

Don't worry, I appreciated the heads up, so I never looked at your post knowing it'd have spoilers.
Just finished Season 3, and I stand by my statement that they fucked up with Snyder the principal. He was plotting at the end of Season 2 on how to keep things happening at the school under wraps with someone else.
Moving onto Season 4:
Angel has just left town, so now I'm thinking I need some new DVDs...
I read the back of the box and this season has "The Initiative". It also has "Hush", an all silent episode.

"Hush" won some awards. It's in my top 10 fave eps.
The "Initiative" season is OK........ I just found the premise a little goofy.

My own thoughts... (There are spoilers, so if you're behind me, please skip this post.)
So I'm going through Angel Season 1 and Buffy Season 4 together.
Xander, whom I don't like, has to be stepping up here soon since Angel is gone and now Oz has left (just watched that episode last night). I also am not a fan of what they're doing with Giles right now. There are a couple of chuckles, but his appearances seem forced as he's no longer centralized like he was when he was the librarian.
I also wish they'd get things going with Spike. I'm aware that SOMETHING is going to happen with him, I just wish they'd hurry up and get there. His small cameos thus far are entertaining, but he needs to be a bigger part of the show.

I always hated Buffy's milquetoast boyfriend, the boyscout soldier. Just totally yawn.
