Um... maybe I misread, but the only way to make points I read about was crafting badges, which means $.

Yeah, the PC Gamer article mentions $ as well. Valve is apparently making a couple thousand a day on this contest.

You don't earn points by voting. It's all about crafting badges. Although going up levels gets you points too...are there ways to level up without spending money?

There's complaining about the whole thing going on in the Steam forums, as you would imagine. My favorite quote:
I miss when valve worked on games and not just ways to get people to practically give them money for nothing.

Less stupid shit like this, more HL2:Ep3...

Not exclusively. You need cards to craft badges and you get the most card drops for purchases sure, but you also get them for voting and participating in the community by doing reviews and various other things.

I've never seen card drops for those things.

You get a Summer card for every three votes. Also non-Summer badges count for competition points, too, so doing game reviews, playing games, and doing the other things that make regular game cards drop and give you a chance of making a badge all count. Well, as long as you make the badges during the competition.

Well, if you've already played games you own enough, you won't get anymore card drops, so purchasing new games will give you card drops...

Meaning you'll have to get new games (spend money).

And how many of us have played all our games at all, much less enough to get all the drops? I sure haven't. :p

It's annoying me that Dead State hasn't gone on sale yet.

What is the "Friends List Slot 5 Slot Level Bonus Not tradable" I get when leveling in Steam?

Pink is winning today, so score points.

I figured out how scores go down. I just completed my third summer adventure card, and one of the rewards I received was a token that I could activate to steal 100 points from another team, and give them to the team of my choosing.

Anyone else level up or complete a badge and get a window that pops up with a picture that doesn't load, and a button saying "Manage Guest Passes"? What the hell is that?

I have no idea how. I did finish off a few badges that I was only 1-2 cards away from, but I thought they were only 1 point each. Hell, even if they were 10, I didn't complete 10 of them today.

OH! I just realized 100 points were from that token I discussed in my previous post in this thread.

I somehow missed the 2nd half of your post. I see now.

And I finished a badge, but didnt get a guest pass window.

As I understand it, anyone who gets a point is eligible for the 3 games, right? Doesnt matter how many points?

The points for the final day are suspiciously close to each other. Steam rigging the last day themselves?

To make up for the horribly designed competition, it'd be cool if they had a five way tie to end it.
