They've been pretty up front about tariffs only being in place if a nation doesn't want to come to the table and negotiate. It's why Mexico didn't get hit with any because they negotiated. It's why they were paused with any nation that agreed to do so.
What am I missing?

I know I hear people say "America First", but I never heard ANYONE say "America alone" as being the meaning of that. It always came across to me as a "get our own house in order first" message.
The one thing I definitely never understood was how tariffs could replace income tax when the tariffs were all temporary?

America First inherently means "less collaboration and less respect" it's by definition. The notion that "We are going to care MORE about ourselves, but that means we will also care MORE about you" is like corporate bullshit. "We're going to cut staff to focus on improve customer service"
It's diametrically opposed to working with others. And, by the US' actions, it's clearly not about respect.
