Making shit more expensive (again) will ruin that momentum and good will.
I'm guessing that number goes down below 50 pretty fast.

The whole Mexico-Canada tariff thing didn't last long, huh?

I gave up on either party being fiscally responsible many moons ago.

Also, fuck the government owning ANY social media outlet.

Yeah, Mexico agreed to do what they had already agreed to, US agreed to stop guns (lol), and Canada also agreed to do what it had already announced it would do months ago.

So... nothing happened. Good theater. But a big "WIN" for Mr Deal. lol

Well, it already owns twitter.

I laughed too.

But let's see if Mexico and Canada actually do their promises...we know we won't.

Illegals coming into the U.S. through Canada has always been a problem. Worse is the legal immigrants from Canada: Bieber, Celine Dion, etc. :D
TheCatt wrote: Mon Feb 03, 2025 6:57 pm Well, it already owns twitter.
To be fair, that's better than them owning them all the past four years.

If mexico wanted their troops to secure the border, they would have already. Putting troops on the border now doesn't mean they'll stop anything.

They did it 3 years ago, lol.

It's all garbage.

El Salvador to accept US deportees of any nationality, as well as imprisoned Americans, in unprecedented deal
Um. God, there's a part of me that's OK with this, but no.

I always say "reopen the penal colony of Australia." El Salvador is the wish.com of that.

To be fair, being there and actually stopping people from crossing are two very different things. What exactly would they have been doing the last four years? Assisting illegals in crossing the border?

Asking countries to actually do something about securing the border instead of suing your own states to STOP them from securing the border is a pretty significant shift.

Reminds me of this classic film:

Are we SURE we don't want to send our prisoners there? Hear me out.

-We only send lifers or people given the death penalty. No more death penalty is a huge win for some folks. (Although, I think we still keep it for treason and pedos.)
-I'd be willing to hear an argument that we only send violent offenders.
-We could then completely revamp the U.S. prison system into one of actual rehabilitation rather than punishment.
-There is a cost savings with fewer people in prison. We close some prisons, tear them down, and build more houses.
-We task some prison making company (probably Blackrock?) here to build a "prison city" in El Salvador. Some place that's like a real city, but can be monitored. Send men and women there. Tell them this is there last chance. They can exist peaceful or kill one another, we don't care. Bonus: Incentivize U.S. companies to move their call centers to this place.

Being sent to El Salvador would be contested in any court in the land. Any mistreatment in that prison, or lack of security from other inmates, etc, becomes cruel + unusual punishment. No way this flies.

Again, it's garbage. You think the military is going to stop cartels from abusing the borders? On their shit pay?

Going by the pattern of Trump statements vs what actually happens, we threaten to send all kinds of people, including US citizens, to El Salvador.

Then we only actually send those we can't easily deport for whatever reason, and not US citizens. Declare absolute victory regardless.

I would be very curious to see how it plays out in court. In my scenario, yeah, we make them live there. However, in the real proposal, the El Salvador president is saying they would just jail them there. Point being, serve your time there, and then get returned. I'm sure someone would find something, somewhere stating the prison has to be here, but I don't know where that is written or why. Let's outsource that shit and save money.

These people are doing their best to tell society that they will not exist by the rules the rest of us agreed upon, so fuck 'em.

But then again, I'm in favor of prison being a punishment and not a criminal training program.
TheCatt wrote: Tue Feb 04, 2025 10:22 am Again, it's garbage. You think the military is going to stop cartels from abusing the borders? On their shit pay?
Cartels get their drugs here other ways. Hell, most are produced here. The border isn't stopping that. The whole "stop drugs" part is garbage, agreed.

Illegals? Different story, and this is important because this is what the majority of voters, including a bunch of Ds, wanted fixed.

So, these actions, even if they result in statistically meaningless improvement, is still better than using the U.S. military to actively help illegals cross the border, tearing down walls at the border, and suing states to stop preventing people from coming into the country ILLEGALLY.

Right?

Money per the articles. I'm guessing they get paid per inmate, so the more the merrier.

I'm pretty sure the cartels move illegals, and drugs.

It's not their bread and butter. If it becomes too unprofitable or a potential liability, they would abandon it. They're collecting money from poor people, which means it isn't that much in the first place. Plus, it's pretty easy to take the money and then just not cross the border...
