So, when I hear people saying "AI" for these things, it's still technically considered Deepfakes. Ok. Makes sense.

I think it's a bad move. Up to this point his targets have been lawbreakers, government bloat, and people in government who have gone after him in the past.

I've seen that his reasoning for the tariffs is "because they keep letting fentanyl into the US." If that's true, it's dumb. Just like with the ICE raids, most people don't care because we're literally just following the law, and peeps are tired of the illegal immigrant crisis, and are tired of the previous administration doing nothing to stop it aside from photo ops.

And most people also don't care if illegal drug users get a batch of poison and kill themselves.

And most people sure as hell don't want their grocery prices going back up just to save them.

So this is a bad move. A big chunk of his support was people who were tired of inflation. And I can't see him caring enough about drug ODs to do this.

So I don't know what "Project 2025" had as a reasoning for this particular thing.

As Catt said, if NAFTA has provisions to prevent this, I expect lawsuits will be filed and judges asked to move swiftly to block the tariffs.

No idea how Mexico is doing financially, but Canada is already a shitshow, so they can't afford a trade war. (Not that we can either.)

To put the tariffs in place, Trump in his executive action declared a national economic emergency, invoking the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, known as “IEEPA,” which authorizes a president to unilaterally manage imports during a national emergency. The tariffs will have no exemptions, and the executive action Trump signed Saturday will close the so-called de minimis loophole that had allowed shipments of $800 or less to come into the United States tax-free — a key provision used by many American small businesses but also Chinese e-commerce companies such as Shein and Temu.

I'm torn on this, but open to it. I don't love the advantages Temu + Shein get, but this isn't the biggest one.

He said something along the lines of "this'll hurt for a minute but it will be worth it."

And I'm sitting here thinking about how long it would take to start manufacturing items in the USA, now paying the union wages, with American expenses, versus the cheap asian labor. And it's like 5-7 years. And it will never happen anyway because of the union wage rates being higher than the 25% tariffs. So this is just a new, permanent 25% increase in the cost of imported goods.
