That's conspiracy theory craziness. This free giveaway is about reestablishing themselves in the market.

Anyone with an IQ above 80 should be able to not select express install and opt out of all the data collection stuff. I didn't see anything in there that I haven't seen in anyone else's EULAs.
I've already seen lists starting to come out with, "Here's what to disable in advanced setting and scrub from the registry" lists, but I was thinking about the many more millions of people who will buy pre-installed from Walmart or Best Buy who probably have no idea about the data mining.

I think I'll be sticking with Win7 until at least 2020.

Throw some of those links up please. I want to see what is missed when you opt out of everything during install.

Also, you're nuts if you don't think Windows 7 is watching you.

Actually, I heard there was some auto-update in Win7 that yeah, they are now mining your data.

The links were on slashdot and other places. I'll start posting them as I stumble upon them again.

Just FYI, I now have W10 running on my gaming PC (nothing on it and can be rebuilt in a few hours) and two Surfaces.

So far the only issue I've had is Time Clickers stopped working.

The Golf Club wasn't working on W7 and is now working. Ditto for Professional Farmer 2014 (thank you TPR...or was it Catt?).

If you mean Farming Simulator that might have been me.

I don't know why it's so satisfying given the slow pace, but it is.

I just skipped it thanks to this thread.
Having never rolled back a Windows update before, I did not know the following:

If you uninstall that update, it will automatically reinstall it next time you do your updates.

You have to keep an eye on it and when that update reappears you have to right-click/hide update. That seems to keep it from coming back like a virus.

Is Microsoft going to disable and wipe your illegal content?

That would be like your realtor stopping by your home whenever they want and taking anything that determine to be illegal.

I thought the same thing when I saw it. I don't think an OS should be in the policing bidness.

playing counterfeit games,

Counterfeit is an interesting term. To me it does not mean illegally downloaded, it means "Corporation A ripped off Corporation B's game" like sometimes happens in app stores.

If you illegal download a game, it is not counterfeit.

No more than it is, technically, piracy. But they like their buzzwords.

Technically pirating software originally meant specifically copying software to sell illegally for profit. If you just used it yourself that wasn't pirating under the original definition. But the 80s Don't Copy That Floppy propaganda machine made sure to confuse that issue as much as possible.

Looks like they're going to do the same with the word counterfeit.

Shooting for ubiquity.
Microsoft just released Windows 10 IoT Core, a slimmed-down version of Windows 10 that runs on the $40 Raspberry Pi 2 and Intel's $140 MinnowBoard MAX—credit card-sized computer boards that makers use to prototype connected gadgets. A version certified for Arduino (the granddaddy of hardware hacker boards) is coming, says Tony Goodhew, a program manager in Microsoft's IoT Team.

Hmm...a machine in my office running uTorrent was upgraded to W10 a few weeks ago. No issues prior to the update, nor after until today.

Updates were installed this weekend and now uTorrent is crashing constantly.

No error messages. Either I look up and it's no longer running (the window is just gone and it's not in the system tray) or it just stops responding.

I got rid of uTorrent awhile back. Now I use Tribler. I like it much better, but it probably depends heavily on what your specific use case is.
