You might consider a bigger power supply if you think you might one day upgrade the video card. The new GeForce cards are pretty power hungry as they are asking for a good 500W power supply. New ones down the road may want more.

Who's BIOSTAR? I've not researched motherboards in a while. But when I did, BIOSTAR wasn't a name I remember hearing. Make sure it's a good board if you haven't already.

And why Vista? You can still buy XP you know.

And make sure that power supply even has the power cables for that video card. Video cards have their own unique and dedicated power lines, now. Modular power supplies are best... you just plug in the cables you need.

Checking out benchmarks across the web....

Torn at the moment between the Q6600 and the Q9550.

Q9 is blazing fast, but is it worth the extra 120 over the Q66?

Tom helped me build my system last time, so I'm definitely using him again...

Also, screw you guys.

Why pay premium prices now when you know they'll just fall in another few months? You really need every last ounce of speed you can wring out of your CPU?

I'll probably be upgrading my CPU in 6 months or so, just because. I made sure my mobo had room to grow my CPU.

True enough, the Q9 is only marginally better, the q6 is pretty amazing by itself atm.

I'd probably keep it for a year min.

Newegg's "Black Friday" is in two weeks.

I don't know the history of said deals... is it worth waiting?

I feel like I'm getting my stuff pretty cheaply anyway... but they sure seem to make it a big deal on their website.

My memory from online stuff last year is that most of it was crap, with only a few good deals around. Physical stores had the good deals, mostly.

The waiting is the hardest part, but newegg usually has stuff out fast. been shopping on their site since... 2003, or so.

What's typical for me is that the case is always the last to arrive, so I can't even start building a little at a time waiting for stuff to arrive. Need the case first.

So, did you buy what you had listed? Which CPU did you go with? Also, that video card you had listed said it was a 'Recertified product'. Does that mean refurbished?

Newegg is awesome. Two weeks ago the stupid UPS guy left my new 20" LCD monitor "at front door of apartment office". The office staff never saw him or it, of course, because anything not nailed down around where I live grows legs. Newegg put in the claim and had a new monitor in my hands by early this week.

I think they mean sort of the same thing.

I've done it twice before on my last computer with the Video card and Motherboard and they are both still running, so I was hopeful. There also apparently a 50/50 chance of getting a gtx+ when you get that particular one, according to the reviews....

System:

1 x ($5.99) CPU THERMPASTE|ARCTIC SILVER5 3.5G% - OEM
1 x ($12.99) CPUCOOLER|ARCTIC P4|ACFZ7-PRO R - OEM
1 x ($64.99) HD 500G|WD 7K 16M SATA2 WD5000AAKS - OEM
1 x ($129.99) VGA EVGA 512-P3-N871-RX 9800GTX - Retail
1 x ($99.99) CASE CM|RC-690-KKA1-GP 550W RT - Retail
1 x ($114.99) MB ASUS P5Q PRO 775 P45 RT - Retail
1 x ($179.99) CPU INTEL|C2Q Q6600 2.4G 775 65N % - OEM
1 x ($80.99) MEM OCZ 2x2G OCZ2F10664GK R - Retail
1 x ($179.99) MS WIN VISTA ULTIMAT SP1 64BIT 1PK% - OEM

About 100 in mail in rebates, which I printed off...one of which will be a 50 dollar gift card at Newegg, which I will probably either spend on a gaming keyboard or some new speakers.

About 100 in instant and combo savings too...'

Things I have already:

Office, Soundcard, peripherals, another 500g hd, monitor, chair?

Holy shit Windows is expensive.

Did all that stuff come recommended from Tom? If so, that will save me some research time! Not sure when I'll buy. . . but I've been getting the bug lately. It's been about 2.5 years for me. That's approaching a record.

Post performance/issues results after building too please.

Good that you bought some arctic silver, but I can't remember the last time I bought a CPU that didn't already have a thin film of coolant paste already applied. They want to make sure the correct amount is applied to cut down on returns when people screw up.

But now you'll have a tiny tube (and it is very tiny) if you ever need to change heat sinks, or whatever.
