Actually, I played it before last night, and just wet to the server history tab when I wanted to refind it.
Truth be told, I've heard comm chatter much more useful than on that one, last night. Could be better. Not that peeps were goofing off, just that there wasn't a lot of helpful chatter. I like more comm.

The upgraded weapons are available 100% of the time.
If the upgraded weapons are instakills, then they shouldn't be available 100% of the time. That would make balancing impossible. I'll have to do some research today on them.

Keep in mind that we were on different teams. The guys I was with were coordinating efforts such as which control point to defend, which one to attack, where turrets were, when to bring out the uber, etc.
My ping to that server was in the teens to thirties all night.
I might be on this evening, but I'm not 100%. I've got golf league tonight and might hit the bar after. If I don't I'll be on.

Ah. Red team said almost nothing and we also got beaten 80% of the time.

I think we played a few maps together and I cannot believe I never saw you in battle. Saw you yelling at me, but I didn't know which button to hit for "all speak". Plus, I figured you'd see my comments in chat.
Last night was the first time I went away from the Soldier as my "go to" class. I've used every class, but the Soldier is so easy to use (point and shoot) that I'd switch to it if I was having trouble on any given map.
However, last night I was playing against a lot of good players who were accurate and knew their classes, which made the point and shoot Soldier a bit less effective in the hands of a noob, so I tried taking the pyro out for a spin. I figured if I couldn't do the most damage, I'd be the most annoying. As it turns out, it was a great decision.
As the pyro, I was shooting up the scoring list for my team. I may not have been the ultimate killing machine, but I racked up a ton of assists and was usually able to break down any defensive bottlenecks pretty quickly. I also found the pyro to be really effective in defense even though it's considered an offensive class.
I still want to really learn the engineer, but I don't know the maps well enough yet to know the perfect sentry placements.

That's something that bothers me about them. A team of 12 that has all three super upgraded people on it will dominate the other team that has none. There was one game recently where a pyro was fully upgraded. He would just run into a group of us and take most of us down before we'd get him. Did that over and over. When you burn longer and all the hits are critical, you don't have much of a chance. It got to the point where you HAD to shoot every pyro, regardless of what was going on. You needed to get him before he got close. So, you'd have to ignore the people moving the cart forward, or capturing a point and concentrate on killing him. Else he'd wipe out your entire team.
It's one thing if there's a few people with those weapons and on opposite teams. It's another when a group of friends have macroed up the achievements to get the super weapons, then join the same team to dominate the newbs who haven't cheated.
I never noticed it. I'll pay back the favor next time we're on.
Also, I agree with Cake about the super weapons. I think being able to use them non-stop sucks. I wonder if all the servers allow them or it that's something that can be shut off. I know I've played on servers where nobody had them.
Plus, if they were that easy to get, you'd think that everyone would have them by now...

I was either a heavy or a Sniper... probably a sniper. Maybe a heavy, heh.
It was the "capture the 5 points" map.
It was inside one of the buildings, and it was you and another guy in there, with me and 2 or 3 others shooting at you. I think I was on a catwalk shooting down at you.
I got straight kill on you, and an assist on the guy you were with.
Honestly, it happened so fast I didn't even notice what class you were. I just registered the kill in the top right corner.
"Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid."
You were the heavy or the sniper? I can see why you'd be confused, those two classes are so similar...
I'd bet at that point I was a soldier. I didn't get into the pyro until after I realized you had logged. Slow, where I shouldn't be, and not jumping to keep your sniper eyes off me.
Is it me or are the engineers forgetting to do spy checks in this version?

I was switching back and forth between snipers and heavy depending on how the team was doing. If we needed some offensive movement, I'd go heavy. If we needed better defense, sniper. So I don't recall what class I was during that exact 3 second slice of time.
As an engineer I do spy checks, with varying success. They move so fast I usually miss when trying to hit them with a shotgun, and it is even harder when they are invis and are, at best, a slight blur moving through the shadows and then crouching behind my sentry planting their explosives, or whatever it is they do.
I get hit by spys on and off as a sniper... I'll pick my spot, and start plinking away until I get backstabbed by a spy. So I respawn and hit the same area, checking all the corners for ANYBODY, red or blue. If it's clear, I zoom the scope again... and then get immediately backstabbed again. I hate that shit. More invisible spy stuff.
"Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid."
The invisible part of the spy is cool. It gives a spy a chance to get behind the scenes. At the same time, I understand what an advantage it is. I think they should've made it so the spy can't attack while cloaked or something.

Putting a fresh XP install on my wife's old PC right now.
It's a 1.2gHz Athalon, if I recall correctly. As long as this TF2 server is just a packet router and doesn't have any hardcore visual processing, it should be fine. I've never really found any recommended system specs for the server.

I'm also looking at tomorrow evening and possibly Saturday too.
Don't count on me getting bored in 3 days.

I'll try to get the server going tonight, but tomorrow afternoon I am heading into MI to a lakehouse for a couple days, so one way or another the server will be on its own during that time.
"Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid."
I don't think I would ever get bored with Gordon making a server.
I've been hella busy lately, or you'd see me out there to. I'm going to try to be on tonight to learn you guys how to play this game. But then I'm out of town over the weekend and have work scheduled at night for about two weeks.
If you don't have the server up Gordo, not a big deal. We can always hit the FNF one, although it is quite popular...
You have FNF bookmarked right? Can you send me all the info I need for that server and your server if you get it up and running? My newb here at work has the orange box and I'm going to make him aware of them. Might try to talk some other folks into it as well.
Figures the one weekend I'll be home and wanting to multi, you two clowns are out of town.

I think that because the server is showing up in my LAN tab, it won't appear in my Internet tab.
Will need someone outside my house to help me test the setup, make sure my router is routing properly, that sort of thing. Hell, I may even need to open a hole in the windows XP firewall. Need someone on the horn.
The server name is "DTMangle," though that may change to "DTMan Handle." That's even a double entendre.
Anyway, I reckon we can fine tune this thing later. The hardest part, getting it set up, is done.
