There are at least two reasons for people to do things: Intrinsic motivation, and extrinsic. Communism would remove the most explicit and common mechanism of the latter, but the former would still exist. Extrinsic motivation could still be provided by relationships, social status, etc.

But yeah, she's insane if she thinks it can happen.

When we get to Star Trek being a reality, then Communism might work. Not before then.

Wasn't that the Borg?

And even Star Trek had issues in their "Utopian" society. Sure, the quest for money and material possessions was gone, but the quest for power was alive and well.

Exact make/model of stove I in the place I used to live. That'll be a bitch to clean.

Full communism would mean the inevitable end of the human race.

Not necessarily, but probably.

You're putting ambition and drive into a scenario where they've been removed. With ambition and drive, full communism isn't a possible reality.

The die hard supporters would claim that it's not possible without drive. Otherwise the proletariat doesn't overthrow the capitalist running dog lackeys. You can't stamp out someone's will either. You can try your hardest to pry it away, but they have to give it up.

If I could sit around watching YouTube and playing Kerbal Space Program all day instead of working, you bet your ass I would.

One of my favourite sci-fi sitcom episodes. Some people have the ability to sit back, relax, and enjoy existence when the opportunity presents itself. I am decidedly not one. There is something in my subconscious that will not allow me to sit still in such situations.

Paradise sounds boring. No conflict, no struggle, no real pain.
"A life without pain has no meaning."

- Arthur Schopenhauer

On Pain.
Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses
your understanding.

Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that its
heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain.

Eden sounds suspicious as fuck to me.

I've always said communism can't work until we can house and feed people with zero effort. As long as there is input required to do those 2 things, peeps has got to work, and advancements need to be made.

Ironically, the fastest way to get to practical Communism is rampant Capitalism to build the resource and technology base to an appropriate level. In about 500 years.

There was some thread a long time ago where we discussed this.... the ability to create unlimited mass from sunlight, and what could be done with it.

Until we can build massive city blocks alla Dredd with free AC and XBox and they all have food nipples in the walls with Enough for All, then communism can't work.

One of my favorite fun facts from the USSR was that home vegetable gardens were outlawed because your labor belongs to the State and they will provide for you. Just insane.

It's a nice sentiment. I would need to ponder whether our bought-and-paid-for government would ever allow that to happen. What's the point of getting elected to high office if you can't be better than all the little folk?

The cool thing is that now know, thanks to Mozilla and the NBA, that's it's perfectly OK to fire someone for their political beliefs.

So, if that was my employee: BAM. You're fired.

You think there will still be governments in 500 years?

That's adorable!

I assumed she worked for the Green Party.

I looked up Rosie Jone.
She's probably the least attractive one there. She's a Page 3 girl over in the UK.

And yeah, I posted them because they were obviously longing for you.

Ah, they're Euros. Funny how that reduces the "whore factor" instantly.

And holy shit that chick in the black (the one from the fight clip) is a psycho. The redhead should have been running after hitting her in the face multiple times and getting no reaction! Why do you need a shovel against someone whose punches have no effect on you?
