I'm going to a doctor tomorrow, we'll see. It's doing better today, but still hurts.

I may have to just accept that my body has limitations now, and I have a certain amount of strength left, and just optimize it and trim down. I won't be benching 300 any more like when I was 22.

Not with that attitude.

The muscles are strong... the joints and ligaments are fragile. That's just age.

It really is, according to my doctors. Sigh.

Muscles are as strong as you make them. The other parts are unfortunately kind of set.

Went to another doctor for another opinion today.

Summary: "Surgery. You should absolutely have surgery"

Long: Have partial bicep tendon tear, have lesion on labrum, have scar tissue from a prior pectoral issue. "Are you happy limiting yourself the way you have to be limited now? If not, Surgery."

He referred me to a shoulder-specific orthopedic surgeon. So, we'll see how that goes.

Get an MRI or something?

I got the MRI 2 years ago. But the surgeon I went to at the time said "The labrum is normal for your age, the arthritis is pretty normal, seems odd you'd have the pain you're having from just the bicep issue." and he didn't notice the scar tissue stuff. He said explicitly he wouldn't operate on me for the labrum, but that maybe with all the pain I was having I should have surgery.

So I decided to do PT and weight lifting for a year, but the pain keeps happening. Today's doctor said I should go to someone who specializes in surgery (prior was a generalist ortho), and he was confident they could fix a lot of stuff.

You may want to get your stuff checkout, Gordon. Tendinosis can be common at our age. I have it, and it's part of what limits me. Therapies for it aren't very good, yet, but eccentric loading and Vitamin E can help.

Right now the shoulder pain only limits me when I am lifting. When I start feeling it in the activities that I am weight training for, like scuba diving, then I'll get it checked out... I can still.haul two tanks at once without feeling it.

Or that could be a "ounce of prevention/pound of cure" mistake.... Hmmmm. I dunno.

Yep. I'd waste an afternoon on it.

Met my best friend from middle school & high school this wkend for the UGA - UNC game. Last saw him 5 years ago for Jets - Redskins. Dude has gained... A LOT of weight. Sounds like a factory starting up when he gets up in the morning.

Rotator cuff injury for him, that he hasn't bothered to fix. Tendon issues for him as well (achilles+). I did manage to get him walking about 7 miles yesterday (I went 3 more run/walk sprints). But then he had like 10 drinks, and 4 meals. So........

Sure, had friends like that as well. It was just weird to see it this late in the game when he was pretty fit at 37.

My doctor wants to discuss statins. I do not.

Image

BP: 108/72
RHR: 62

My triglycerides are fabulous cuz I don't eat many carbs. My LDL is high, but I keep hearing very skeptical science on it. I may eat more nuts or something. And veggies.
