People really underestimate the risks of melatonin. That being said, it was certainly a stupid thing to do, and they should probably be fired, but the criminal charges seem a bit excessive. Can't we just educate stupid people?

A school, by law, can't just give your kid Tylenol without permission. My wife has had all the training and fills in every now and then for some of the nurses in the district. They have to track everything.

THEY TRACK COUGH DROPS!!! (Although, the main driver of this policy is because kids were treating cough drops as candy and it was becoming a distraction.)

So if the law says to get permission for over the counter stuff for actual issues, I'm going to say melatonin to get kids to sleep is bad.

Plus, you don't know what effect drugs will have on people. I'm allergic to penicillin or was when I was a kid. Yet that's the first word uttered for any sort of infection.
