According to this it was already uncontainable over a month and a half ago.

Animate it.

And again, these are the confirmed cases, not the people walking around with it without even knowing.

But Trump told us it was over?

The cruise ship, where they had exact numbers of people infected, and uninfected, suggested that the actual death rate of all people actually infected was .5%, approximately 5 times worse than people who die from the flu every year.

This article backed up my constant observation that we don't know how many actual cases there are, and the mortality numbers are erroneously high, because of it.

I think we're all on the same page here.

So it's 5x more deadly than flu (+/-), and InfinityX more likely to scar your lungs permanently. So... that's a win? Go on and live your lives like normal?

The dog that hasn't barked is Africa. Take a look at that map: practically zero cases. Yet Africa is basically a Chinese colony these days. They should be keeling over from this. On the other hand...how would that be different from Africa on any other day?

Not unless you think you can avoid getting it, forever.

China only ships goods and money, not people. Much less people interaction. Also, the McAfee theory

Do you know that hospitals basically fill up each year with flu patients?

No, I've never heard that little tidbit of information.

I'm looking at it optimistically. You may be exposed, maybe. If you're exposed, you may become symptomatic, maybe. If you're symptomatic, it may be worse than a cold, maybe. If it's worse than a cold, it may require medical care, maybe. If it's so bad it requires medical care, it may scar your lungs, maybe. And we have an approximately .5% chance of dying from it if it gets that far, in our age group. The odds go up to around 15% in the age group that's going to die in the next 5 minutes, anyway.

You get waaaaaay better odds at a Vegas blackjack table.

I'm looking at it with a half-glass-full of why is everyone overreacting, and others are looking at it as a glass-half-HOLY FUCKING SHIT CIVILIZATION IS ENDING. My dollar is that toilet paper stocks will drop when no one needs to buy it for the next 2 years, after this all blows over.

Well, as I stated earlier, I don't think civilization is ending. But in general, I'd prefer to not risk dying or having lung scars, and I think it's reasonable that steps are taken to minimize the damage of this virus.

A doctor friend was just glad it lasted past flu season, cuz the flu basically fills up the hospital every year, even with the much lower mortality and severity rates. So of the Corona virus hit 10% of the people that get the flu each year, our hospitals would be overwhelmed.

We went out to dinner at our favorite sushi place, and it was half empty.

The kids went climbing at the gym while we ate, and it was about half as busy as normal for a Friday night.

Also, very little traffic.

Got to enjoy this while it lasts

Definitely enjoying the quieter YMCA. I asked an employee if anyone had been talking about closing it, and the answer I got was that they were taking extra sanitation precautions.

Hopefully everyone keeps paying the monthly fee and they stay open. I may get a shitload of laps in next week.

I posit that worrying and stressing about getting sick makes it more likely you'll get sick.

I was supposed to die from a nerve disease ("Best case scenario, you're never going to walk again, but get your affairs in order now"), and my positive mental attitude went a long way to making sure that didn't happen. Keeping the same attitude now.

Also India. India has nearly as many people as China, is possibly more crowded and disease-ridden.

I guess the simple explanation is that Africa and India just aren't testing sick people.

Plenty of reports on social media of completely packed bars, night clubs, and casinos. Certainly hope this is all overblown but a few weeks from now we’ll know when symptoms start to show.

I’m just over here in California gardening away and signing up for meal delivery services.

Our unofficial policy in DTManor has been... "Let's eat out while they still let us, and save the 3-some-odd-weeks of food in the house for just in case."

Figured this out - it must be the second attack wave by Generation Z and Greta.

First it was "Ok, Boomer", and now they are escalating by stoking a pestilence against the olds.
